I just get a thin line border around the perimeter of the image, or if I click on it, I get the little black boxes at the corners. If I go into Print Preview, or if I print the document, the image "magically" appears.

I have had this problem before on another computer, but I forget how I resolved it. I have gone through every option setting and formet setting I can think of, and HELP has been NO help (no surprise there).

I am using INSERT, PICTURE, FROM FILE, and selecting a jpeg file from my hard drive. I tried copying and pasting, and that does the same thing. I also tried a GIF file and the same thing happens.

How do I get a pic file to display in the document while I am working on it?

In Word, click on Tools | Options | View | check the "Drawings"
box and uncheck the "Picture placeholders" box | OK. If the problem
persists, then reduce or turn off hardware acceleration in your display
driver by clicking on Start | Control Panel | Display | Settings | Advanced and its under TroubleShooting.

That is weird, I have never seen that before. Try opening the Jpeg separately from Word. Then Right click the image and choose 'copy'. Then go into Word, right click the page and say 'paste'. If that doesn't work, try pasting the image in MSpaint, and then saving it, open the saved image in mspaint back up, then copy the image, and go to Word and paste.

I would suggest investing in the adobe creative suite 2 (or wait til 3 comes out soon) if you are going to be working with images alot.
