Nah, 4 year olds have the attention span of a gnat. Movies are not an activity of choice. Once, I told my 5 yr. old cousin I would give him a dollar if he could stand still for one whole minute. He didn't last 5 seconds, literally. Some kids can sit through movies fine, but I've found that most have to stay physically active, not just mentally active. They aren't quite that refined yet.

Basically, he's just a normal kid.

if this is the only reason you are concerned about add i wouldn't worry. i had the same problem when i took my four year old to her first movie (cat in the hat) a movie theater is big and there are lights and lots of people and this can be very overstimulating for most kids. it was probably just to much for him to take in at once and he doesn't understand why he has to stay in his seat and why he can't talk and ask questions like he does at home. My best advice is to try taking him again in a few months and if the same thing happens leave. don't get disappointed and don't worry that there is something wrong with your son. If he still doesn't want to go wait till the movie comes out on video you'll know when he is ready. good luck

Ahhhh, there is nothing wrong with him, he's just 4 and he's a boy. My 8 yr old still has a hard time in the theater, my 15 month old is MUCH easier. My 8 yr old is still difficult in public, and he has been tested for ADD/ADHD and was fine, he's just very smart and his mind goes a million miles a minute. My calm child, my 10 yr old, was actually the one diagnosed with ADD. He could not focus on school work, but he does fine in movies. Don't stress it. Do you have a dollar theater in town, one that plays older movies? That way he can practice movie behavior without you wasting $8 a ticket each time you have to leave with him.

Every child is different. Maybe he just wasn't interested, or didn't know what to expect at the theater. I wouldn't say he has A.D.D. off of one incident. 4 year olds tend to have a mind of their own. My 4 year old can be sassy and completely ignore everything that is said to her and go completely against the rules. I think a lot of times 4 year olds want to be independent and the only way to do this is to ignore what they are told. If your really worried about your son, I would talk to your doctor.

Maybe he just isn't ready to sit through a movie yet. Does he sit through them at home? Watchin a movie from start to finish at home would be the first step. If he already does that then either he found the movie boring who was over stimulated by the new surroundings/situation and needed to check it all out.

Something new, probably was too excited to be there to watch the movie. Maybe try it again soon and see if he is better. If not I would stick to movies at home for a while longer. My baby daddy has a 4.5 year old, I have taken her to the movies a few times and not even half way through she decided she wants to leave...LOL we stay anyway.

I think it was the movie. I took my 3 1/2 year old to see it, she loves going to movies and will sit glued to the screen until it's over. She thought Cars was boring and kept asking if we could go home. I thought it was slow and didn't like it that much. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions, could have been the movie.

Sounds like he was just really excited - it was his first movie, and I'm sure it was pretty exciting for a four-year old!

Also, if you didn't talk alot about the "movie rules" several times before you took him, he probably had no idea that this wasn't appropriate behavior for the theater.

Maybe he was just tired of sitting still and watching the movie. He was probably bored of sitting so decided to get up and run around like all 4 yr olds do...

He doesnt have ADD. He was testing his limits. What do you feed him on a regular basis? What did you feed him before you went to the show? Im a firm believer that eating a healthy diet can do wonders for kids.
