when you use a recipe from a foodnetwork cooking show, how much of the ingredient list and procedures does one have to change before they can call that dish their own creation

a contest winner once told me you can add or take away one ingredient to make it your own.

Let your integrity be your guide.... I would say that most recipes are there as a guideline and ingredients can changed, added, subtracted increased and decreased (except for baking which is more chemistry and therefore exact measurements are necessary) to essentially change flavors. Most sauces we know today came from one or two mother sauces and chefs have added and changed them overtime to create new and different tastes. I would hope that whatever you do you credit the base recipe and then point out your changes that made it better and unique.
