At first, you may not be able to get rid of stress. But you can manage it better. You can take charge and make sure it doesn't push you around. When my computer does a "hang," for example, I leave the room and do something totally different. When I come back, a new screen is up and the problem is gone. In other words, I don't react to everything that gets dropped into my lap. I buy time and space for me. You come first, here, not the stress. You are the one who is important, not the stress. You are the one who has the right to a happy life, not a life filled with unmanageable stress. When you have gone and sat down and become calmer inside, take a close look at the different places your stress is coming from. With the computer, it is the computer. Step back. If a person is making your life difficult, do the same thing: step back. Be somewhere else. The big mistake we all make about stress is we all hang around, asking for more of it. And stress goes, oh, you want some more? Here! And it builds. You can take stress apart. My chiropractor said people collect stress in their muscles. The idea, he went on, is to nail it when it is small and is just beginning. Small things that peeve you are so much easier than gigantic knots of tension and pain that immobilize you. Try to see where your stress is coming from. What are the "triggers," in other words.. sometimes, a person's annoying habits can push your buttons, and your day goes nuts while everybody else goes their way. Put yourself back, front and center, into your life as a truly good person and worthy of a fair shake at peace of mind and a calm outlook on everything. Find that center again inside you and set your compass to it. Find the North Star. Detach. I am feeling you are going to be just fine by seven this evening, but if it still wants to be foolish and try to push you around, just go and sit down and tell it to leave you alone. Our brains, you know, sometimes offer us ideas all by themselves, stuff that we have not asked for, and we have to tell them to cut it out. I am sending this to you with a steady and firm center built into it, and I am praying that your uneasiness and tension will go out the window and that you will have a great evening! With lots of love from Chris, in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. (I am 63 years old.)

If you feel the need to cut when stressed out, you may have something really wrong that needs some professional help.

Definitely some good answers in here. Try some form of exercise, jogging, trail running or vigorous walking. Yoga is another great option, to sort out the positives and negatives in your life and to regain some focus.

We all deal with stress in different ways, but don't ever resort to self-mutilation. Another non-physical form of stress relief, is to laugh. Try watching something like a funny movie, such an Anchorman. Hilarious, *personal favorite.*

People find different ways to release tension from their bodies. Cutting is definetly not the answer. When you feel a certain "feeling" coming on, try to focus on anything else, go for a walk or jog, this will occupy your mind on surroundings around you, call a friend, definetly look into counseling. I speak from experience, as my 18 year old daughter had the same problem and counseling did help her.
Good luck !

First of all find a place or a room where there is quietness. This means no tv, radio, computer, i-pod etc. Then sit in a comfortable position for a few minutes to unwind and ask yourself why do you have stress? If you discover why. Then ask yourself what do you need to become stress free in a particular scenario. Seek professional help if necessary.

There are several ways. For example, I will submerge myself in an Nintendo game (I have the old NES) or in a movie. I would also suggest that you try talking to a trusted friend or someone. Exercise helps some or also a dart board and throwing darts at it. There are numerous things you can do. I am a graduate student finishing my Ph.D. in psychology, so if you want to talk and have someone who will be non-judgmental drop me a line. Sometimes just having someone listen to you will be of great help.

When I was a kid I was a cutter, a friend of mine then got me into boxing and the Tai Chi. Worked wonders. No long shirts in the summer was a plus too.
