Seoul in one day...
Easy Peasy!
If you want to do shopping for one day in Seoul:
Take the airport bus to Nam Dae Mun... wander around and get lost, then refound and buy lots and lots of things. Dont agree to the first price, simple effective way of asking for a discount in Korean: Ga Ka Joo Se yoh (pronounced that way, not spelt that way). Nam Dae Mun is good for traditional Korean goods, souvenirs and such.
When you are over Nam Dae Mun, wander down the street towards Myeong Dong. Its a bit more expensive, but honestly my favourite shopping area in South Korea. You can find good food here too.
Myeong Dong closes around 10, so after that you can head to Dong Dae Mun, it's a HUGE night shopping market, famous for clothing at very cheap places.
When you first get to Dong Dae Mun, generally you will see 'Doota' shopping mall first, Doota, Migliore and A:PM are the three main shopping centres. Doota being more expensive, and A:PM cheaper. Make sure you know your size beforehand, most places dont have changing rooms.
Dong Dae Mun closes at 5am... after that you can get on an airport bus, and head back to the airport... or:
If you want a more 'touristy' experience: Get on an airport bus, and head for In Sa Dong, or Gwang Hwa Mun... (there are other places) and get on the Seoul city bus its only 10,000won and you can get on and off at places of interest to you.
With the Seoul City bus tour, you can see the palaces, museums, traditional villages, Seoul tower and a good mix of other things. Its been a while since I did it, but I definately recommend that for a day trip. Great way to see Seoul in a day.
Enjoy your day here in Seoul!

Only one day is hardly enough time!
OK, if that's all the time you can spend here, here are three "must-sees":
Gyeongbokung Palace - one of the biggest palaces and it's centrally located...it's close to the next place >>>>
Insadong - This is a great place to stroll and grab a quick taste of Korea and to pick up some souvenirs...it's a little touristy but locals go there too
Last but not least, check out the Picasso exhibit at the Seoul Art Museum (close to City Hall station) ...the museum is close to another small palace that you can check out if you have enough time.
Enjoy this part of Asia!

Lucky you. Go buy a cool leather jacket in Namdaemun market. Subway station same name. Eat there too. Just look for the grungiest little noodle shop and that'll be the best one. Haggle for a bargain. It's cheap there. Don't go to Itaewon. It's for tourists : overpriced and overrated. If you need a new Ipod or whatever, go to Youngsan and boggle your mind at the electronics emporia. Subway is the way to go in Seoul. Have fun

I liked the "hidden inner" palace gardens and the area where they are rebuilding the palace including the musems.
Than walk thru Itewan just to see the crowds.
You can take the subways around and they are close to these two areas.

What are you talking about? You can see all of Korea in one day. But seriously...go to Itaewon, Dongdaemun Market and The Children's Park.
