Seroquel is prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia, a mental disorder marked by delusions (false beliefs), hallucinations, disrupted thinking, and loss of contact with reality. It is also used for the short-term treatment of mania associated with bipolar disorder.

It can be prescribed for sleep, it's also an anti-psychotic as well for some people.
Every medicine though has side effects, including over-the-counter ones such as tylenol and advil.
The effects vary from person to person, one may have had a bad experience with seroquel such as it gave them nightmares, but for another it worked wonders, only you and your doctor can make the decision of whether one's working for you or not. I only mention this more in response to the people saying negative things about the medicine.
Everyone's body works different with medications, your doctor picked seroquel for a reason, I'd go with your doctor rather than someone who's just going from a personal experience rather than the experience of everyone.
But back to the original question, it IS prescribed for sleep and also as an anti-psychotic as many medicines work for multiple things nowadays.

I don't think it should be, considering it is an anti-psychotic medication. and there is never anything about it being prescribed for sleep in any of the patient drug information iserts that I get with my prescriptions from different pharmacies.

Even though the previous statement is true, it is exactly why my doctor prescribed it for me. It does work but you have to find the right dosage that works for you. To high of a dose will leave you groggy when you wake up but to low of a dosage won't help you sleep.

I suggest going to a vitamin store and buying sublingual melatonin tablets. Buy the lowest dosage you can find so you can start out with a low dosage and add to it in order to find the right dosage for you.

It's in the class of anti-psychotics, but yes, it is also prescribed as a sleep aid. I'm on it for both reasons... I take 100mgs in the morning and 400mgs at bedtime.

Yeah sadly it is prescribed for almost any Mental Health or sleep issue. It is junk and does not work!, And remember people whatever your Dr. says stick to yourself mine told me the voices, people and objects that talked to me really did not and that people can read my thoughts and all that stuff was not true. I do not believe Dr.! I have no idea why I was on it.
