it wouldn't have a great effect on them. instead of gaining 25-35lbs i'd think 20-30 would be sufficient. i was 40lb overweight and i gained 50lbs lol

usually heavier persons have bigger babies.. but like I've always said, I'd rather have a big baby than a little baby, that way I don't feel like I'm going to break him.. But there's also a risk for Diabetes, higher blood pressure, preeclampsia, and even the anesthesiologist not being able to find your spine to give an epidural... But I wouldn't worry too much though, I'm only 5'4 and weighed about 150 before I got pregnant and now I'm up to about 205.. and the Dr's always telling me that I look great for a woman in her 9th month...

Just more cushion for the baby! That's what my midwife told me when I was pregnant with my daughter.
20 pounds isn't too much, so it shouldn't be too big of a deal.
But overweight pregnant women are at risk for other complications, such as hypertension, gestational diabetes, or complications during a c-section, if necessary.
I'm slightly overweight now, and trying to conceive. I'll just try (key word- try!) :) to eat healthy and exercise and I'm sure everything will be fine. Congratulations!

I was slightly overweight when I got pregnant and found a great webiste dedicated to eating well and being fit while pregnant (www.babyfit.com) I am now 39 weeks pregnant and have only gained 19 pounds and the baby is really healthy and I feel great.
Now if only this little chickadee would hatch already :P

It won't effect it at all. Who says you're 20 lbs. overweight? And why do you believe them? Doctors know very little about such things. You can have a healthy baby no matter what you weigh! I would lay off the smoking and over - drinking though.

Typically if you're already overweight prior to becoming pregnant you won't gain as much during the pregnancy. I had a friend who only gained 10 lbs her whole pregnancy because she was overweight to begin with. It won't affect the child's health unless you already have health problems as a result of you weight.

what it affects is your ovulation time. and if pregnant you are at a higher risk of getting diabetis. it is all about the hormones, however I am 5'3" and 184 ponds and 7.5 weeks pregnant, I feel good and got pregnant within a month and a half of trying, so it really depends on your body and genetics.
