Because that's the only way to get those around you to reply "bless you" when you sneeze. I never say "achoo" and no one ever gives me a bless you or even a gesundheit!

Thats where the onomatopoeia "Achoo" came from, the sound that people make. I'm sure some people are overly dramatic and yell it because they can, but I personally make a sound like ACHOO really loudly when I sneeze naturally.

my grandma used to say Horseshit when she sneezed. I think you make a sound because you learn it, also, I hear its bad to suppress the noise...even animals make a "noise" when they sneeze. The ACHOO...is just learned.

Because they have no sense! THis drives me CRAZY!!! And then they say they can't helt it. Show me ONE baby that says achoo when it sneezes, and I'll buy that they can't help it. Babies don't use their vocal cords when they sneeze!!

Yeah.That's really disgusting don't you think?Instead of a natural sneeze they make a sound like in the books.That's very sick to me.

perhaps by some astonomical coincidence they're all about to say, "ah choose...." (obviously said in their best amos n andy voice), but they are caught in mid-sentence by the need to sneeze

oh my god! I thought my mother was the only person in the world who did this (just to embarrass me, I figured).

She really accentuates the last part, too....

sounds like "achewww". I shudder everytime.
