I need to know what type of insect I have on my hands, It is red in color and has eight legs. Super small in size, about the size of a pencil tip. I live in Cleveland Ohio and found it on my desk at work. I believe that this bug is biting be all day, as I have been itching all over for the last week. Please help

This isn't a bug but rather an arachnid. If you notice it will have two body segments. Insects have three body segments and only have 6 legs. The bug you are talking about is a mite. They may be chiggers. They bury themselves under your skin. The best way to stop the itching is to kill it. To do that place nail polish (I prefer clear because no one can see it.) over the "bite."

Everything that I saw suggest treating the area like you have lice. Mites are parasites. You need to treat the skin and use disinfectant on the area. I would tell you boss you have to move!

If it has eight legs, it isn't an insect, but a type of spider

Sounds like a tick. Is it's body hard or soft. If it's hard, it's probably a tick ("dear tick" or "bear tick"). If the body is soft, I would guess it's some sort of mite, probably the plant eating variety.

Of course I'm assuming you know it's not a spider.
