This is one of the times I feel abortion is necessary and understandable.

Depends on the woman.
Truth is, only incest over generations of immediate family members breeds defects, so that shouldn't be a consideration. Plenty of ppl today have kids with genetic abnormalities with partners outside their family. And if genetic defects is the only reason, then women over 35 should be told never to get pregnant because of the risk of Down Syndrome.
However, having a family member as the father can cause logistical problems later (did they go to jail? did they get out? do they want rights? do you sue for child support?), as well as emotional scars on the kid after learning their true parentage.
For a lot of women, having the child of a rape is an intensely healing process. Something innocent is brought into the world after something horrifying. Something beautiful from something ugly. It's a ying-yang kind of thing for a lot of women. Brings it full circle.
For others, it's always a reminder of what happened, and an intense hatred for the baby exists. Even if given up for adoption, there's always the fear that the child will come back to find you, much as you fear being attacked again.
There are philosophical arguments like, "the baby didn't do anything wrong why kill it," or "it's just more pain why keep it..." No one can say one way or another for a woman in this situation. It's up to her and how she can find the best way to cope and heal.

There are a lot of factors that affect my opinion on this. I'm adamently against abortion. If the woman doesn't want the baby, she should have it and give it up for adoption. However, if it would pose a dire health risk (i.e. the woman could die from the pregnancy or birth) I believe abortion is acceptable. Also, there are tests she could get that would tell her whether or not the child will have any genetic or mental disorders due to the incest. If the child is at a greak risk of having a serious condition, then abortion would also be acceptable, since that would save the child from an unfulfilling life. I believe that things happen for a reason. Maybe that child is supposed to exist. This woman may not have gotten pregnant otherwise. But I strongly believe that she should give birth to the baby, and let people who desperately want to raise a child have the chance to do so. They could give the child a wonderful life instead of it being cut short before the child can even see the world.

I can not offer you a better answer than those above on this philosophical debate.
What I can do is offer a real life experiance.
My daughter 11 was raped and impregnated by her step father. She being capable of carring the child to term was given the choice. I as her biological father could only advise her.
Without going into all the pros and cons we discussed. She decided to carry the child to term with the intent of placing the child up for adoption at birth.. She later changed her mind and decided she would keep the child if I would help her... I did.
Six years later, a senior in high school, she fell from a ladder and was killed..
The child, a handsome man now eighteen, is happy to be alive and will always remember his mother with love. ..
Was he worth it? She thought so. And I am sure, if he knew, he would think so too.

I have to ask, "What would make that child any less than any other child, to their parents?" All I could come up with, is the embarassment and guilt felt my the mother (and possibly by the father) which are hardly reasons to kill another person ... specially a baby. - The past cannot be changed, what's done is done regarding this hypothetical incestuous rape you pose, ... adding a death on top of all that hardly seems logical to me.
When a loved one passes away, generally the funeral brings closure. In the case of an abortion, there is no funeral ... no tagnable closure. Perhaps those who are aborted are never really loved ... except by God, who I doubt would hold the fetus accountable for the situation that brought about it's conception.

Because of the high risk of genetic defect and the particularly heinous level of the crime committed, I could not fault a person for having an abortion, but it is up to her. If she chooses to have the baby, I just hope she gets educated on what she is facing. It may be a dark family secret and what do you tell a child about such a thing, if they can understand in the first place. Tough position.

I would imagine that the woman who was raped would not want to keep the baby. But ultimately it is her decision. I think that if I was in that situation, I wouldnt want to keep it. Depending on how close the family member was, the child may have physical and developmental problems on top of all the emotional problems suffered by the mother.

aborting the pregnancy? NO! keeping the baby? it depends...
i have seen a lot of such pregnancies delivering babies that are quite normal, with others growing up to be good kids and very intellectual. it would be unfair for the child if he dies because of one incident to which he/she was the by-product. let the kid live!
if you decide to keep the baby for yourself, there is a great possibility you may never get over your hate on the day of the rape incident. and possibly, you may even hate the baby if he/she comes out to this world. if this happens, just have the baby sent to a foster home where he/she can have a better chance of survival, and maybe have a better family who would take him/her as an adopted child.
some moms pregnant from a family member rape incident, looses her hate and even her remorse upon giving birth and seeing her baby coming in to this world. eventually living happily together.
it's the mother's choice... but she has to be patient and very, very careful in giving out that decision. an unborn child's life is at stake here.
just to tell you, i love children so much... i have three for myself.

I do not agree with abortion. My philosophy is grow up double up the protection or keep your legs shut so your not a murderer. That is a different scenario in itself however and I would say she should not. I say this for multiple reasons, including but not limited to the fact that the child would have severe health complications due to the relation.

that is up to the woman who was raped. i believe, however, that the woman should have an abortion. the baby may have some genetic defects because of being inbred, but it's unfortunate because the baby isn't the one at fault. it's the psycho freak that the woman is related to.

No, there could be severe genetic problems.
And if a women was raped no matter what, I really think it would be an aweful reminder to look in your kids eyes the rest of your life and be reminded about who the father is.
