It is proper etiquette to place a $1.00 bill in a wallet or purse. It used to be a gesture of good luck. Additionally, never give a piggy bank as a gift without a few coins inside.
In a similar way, it is proper to never return a borrowed plate empty. There are hundreds of these traditions that are no longer being practiced, simply because today, very few people care about good manners.

When I was a kid, my mom told me if you gave a change purse, you had to put a penny in it, it was for good luck and to symbolize "may your change purse always be full". and when you gave a wallet, you should put a dollar in it.
I dont know if it's something everyone does, but that is what I was taught, so I do it. I guess it's the same thing I was taught that you never arrive at someone's home empty handed. I think it's all in how you're brought up.

Most times I have given or received a wallet, there has been a penny or a nickel in it. Thus you preserve any "good luck" from giving the wallet with money in it, and also you don't set yourself back too much in $$$ at the same time.

A gift is a voice from the heart. Whatever you give should reflect how you feel towards the person. There's no customary on giving a gift, those are just human's old time stories to make them feel better.

Yes, it is customary and "normal" to include a monetary gift inside. It is considered good luck. Even just a dollar bill is fine, you just have to remember to include it!

When you give someone grocery bags should you fill them with food? The wallet is a nice enough gift. They should put whatever they already have in it.

Not really...people usually give people expensive wallets so adding money would be a bit much.

If it is a nice wallet I think that would be fine. It also depends on who you are giving it to and the occasion.

no rules these days , but if u think you should then do it : you might also try to be proportionate a $10 wallet and a $10 bill would be silly
