The US National Institutes of Health provides information sheets on all forms of nutrients, you can find the listing HERE

http://ods.od.nih.gov/health_information/health_information.aspx

Their fabulous fact sheet on Iron is HERE

http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/iron.asp

including which foods HAVE it and HOW MUCH! :)

Best of all, this is from a site that is not trying to SELL you ANYTHING! You can TRUST this info! :)

Once you read the list, perhaps make a game of it with your child, search old magazines to find pictures of the foods listed, and see which ones seem of particular interest to your child. :)

Then, you can simply use one of the innumerable Internet Recipe Finders

http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=recipe+finder&ei=UTF-8&fr=FP-tab-web-t&x=wrt

to find recipes that use the foods best meeting your child's needs and interests! :)

Best wishes from an Anemiac! ;)

PS If that does not give you the information you need, and you don't mind countless pop-up ads, you could try looking at

http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/nutrition/iron_requirements.html

http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/welcome/commonproblems/anemia.html

http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/nutrition/preventing_iron_deficiency.html

That site seems to offer credible information, but at the opposite extreme--selling, Selling, SELLING! :(

Here are the things that are high in iron. Red meats. Beef, chicken, pork, lamb and fish and eggs. Oysters, pound for pound are the highest in iron of all foods.

A human body cannot metabolize iron without vitamin C. So chase any red meats with lots of orange juice.

If you mix beans, rice and corn with meats, you get additional supplemental iron. So, if you fed your child Spanish Rice, or Tacos and Spanish Rice or Chili, you would be giving her a LOT of iron. Peanut butter is also an excellent source of iron. So peanut butter and jelly sandwiches would really be good for her.

There is a program for women and children called WIC. It is through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Maybe she would qualify for a WIC voucher. You can find it under the Extension Service in your county or through the land grant college in your state. They have nutrition programs which come with recipe services for just that type of issue.

Medicating her is not a bad idea. Generally they give you ferrous sulfate or ferrous glutamate. The medicine is nothing more than an iron fortified vitamin. You can also just give her vitamins with iron added.

E-mail me for additional information.

Red meat is an excellent source of iron, black beans. Also, Mulitgrain Cheerios and a lot of other cereals have100% of the iron you need each day! All kids love some kind of cereal!

Here's a very interesting site:

Have you tried cooking with a cast iron pan? I heard that the iron from the pan goes into whatever you're cooking.

A lot of green leafy vegetables like spinach, broccoli. Best bet is to kind of hide it in other things - make spinach and eggs.
