on easy bruising:
It is not possible for someone to tell you why you bruise easily over the internet.
Often and generally bruising may simply be a symptom of fragile capillaries.
There is a relationship between capillary fragility and the diet. Specifically, vit c and the related compounds... that occur naturally in vit c foods strengthen all of the bodies connective tissue.
The connective tissue in the body is made up of a substance called collagen. It is sort of a lattice work upon which the body is built .
Often if a person has an insufficient amt of vit c and related compounds in their body, they bruise easily, may have some bleeding of the gums when brushing teeth, slower wound healing, relative fragility of the skin , etc.. .
IF and I stress IF these problems are related to a vit c insufficiency, then a small vit c supplement is often very helpful to toughen all of the bodies connective tissue.
Generally, 250 to 500 mg of vit c a day is a good amount, and you can / should discuss this with your health care practitioner and pharmacist to make sure that there are no contraindications for you in doing this.
There are several forms of vit c... The oldes and simplest is ascorbic acid. Many people use it with good results.
Some people are sensitive to the acidic nature of ascorbic acid. There is another form of vit c called ester c....it is non acidic and often less irritating to the stomach lining( gastric mucosa )
Ester c seems to stay longer in the body, and may be more useful because of that.
If taking a small amt of vit c helps with bruising, bleeding gums, skin toughening, etc then you have likely found and solved your problem.
There are of course, other medical problems that can cause bruising, including various conditions that cause platelate dysfunction, and bleeding.
Diabetes might cause blood vessel fragility and would be worth ruling out as well.
These symptoms might be simple and easy to deal with on your own or they might need further workup and diagnosis....
Time is of course of the essence so if you feel that there might be a significant underlying problem, by all means get an exam from a doc and find out what is going on.

If this is something youve had your whole life, its normally due to a combination of thin skin and weak blood vessal walls.
It could also be a side effect of blood thinners if you have taken any recently.
There are some natural substances and herbal remedies that can also thin the blood and support easy bruising. Some of these are aspirin, garlic and vitamin E. A doctor or dietician could give you a more extensive list. Check your diet because multiples of these will amplify the effect.
If this bruising came on suddenly, it is severe and none of the above applies, I recommend seeing your doctor. Bruising rarely, and I stress rarely, is indicative of a few serious medical problems, one in particular is leukemia

It's not the skin that is sensitive. It may mean that you have low platelets. Platelets are the smallest cells in the blood and are essential for coagulation. They are a key part of scabs. With a deficiancy of platelets, it's takes longer for the blood to coagulate.
Also, some medications and a Vit. C deficiency can result in low platelets and easy bruising.
The likelihood of this being caused by leukemia is very slight unless you've also been experiencing the other symptoms of this disease. And easy bruising is not a symptom of anemia.

As a person ages, he or she will bruise more easily. The layer of protective fat just under the skin becomes thinner. The small blood vessels also become more fragile and are more easily damaged. Frequent long-term exposure to the sun can also cause the skin to be more fragile and likely to bruise. The tendency to bruise easily may run in families.
Other causes of bruising may include the following:
blood disorders, including problems with blood clotting such as hemophilia A or hemophilia B
blood-related diseases such as leukemia, a blood cancer
liver disease, such as cirrhosis
lymphomas
certain disorders in which bone marrow cells grow at an abnormal rate
nutritional deficiencies, such as deficiency in vitamins C, K, B12, or folic acid
sepsis, or severe infection in the bloodstream
systemic lupus erythematosus, an autoimmune disorder in which a person's body attacks its own cells for unknown reasons
trauma, or injury
prolonged coughing or vomiting
medications, such as blood thinners
abuse, such as child abuse, spousal abuse, or elder abuse
surgery or other medical procedures
allergy-related disorders

The other answers are good. It also could be that you are low in vitamin C, bioflavonoids or vitamin K. Are you on the birth control pill? It can cause you to bruise easily.

It could be anemia, or in more severe cases even leukemia. You probably should get it checked out by a physician.
