Because they cannot defend them effectively. Most people don't know very much about their own religion at all. And their faith is so fragile that they feel very threatened by challenges to the illogic it represents from a reasoned, thinking person.

It's the same dynamic as a kid who doesn't want to hear it when an older sibling informs him there's no Santa Claus.

Religion is Santa Claus for ignorant grownups.

Because they have been brain washed into believing a book for so long that they can't justify or answer effectively what it actually is they believe!

I for one feel very uncomfortable and offended when people constantly use their beliefs and faiths etc to answer me on here. I am an athiest and I don't believe any of the stuff they tell me, yet they feel it their Christian duty to spout it out anyway. If they don't do it here, I get e-mails telling me all about it! They never seem to reply though when I bombard them with questions to prove or justify their comments!!

Not all people feel uncomfortable when challenged. The ones that do may not know the answer or they are being forced to look at a perspective they hadn't thought about previously.

It's probably because it's something they find comfort in - but when their religion is attacked, then their comfort level is attacked.

I didn't know a lot about my religion before, so I used to find it uncomfortable to answer questions, but the more I learned, the more I felt it was right, and now I don't feel uncomfortable when others say things about it. I just feel they don't know any better, and it's just our job to inform people who are misinformed. :)

I myself challenge beliefs all the time even though I share them. A lot of the times its because they are taking everything on faith instead of actually possesing the knowledge that its in the bible or not in the bible. People are for the most scared they are wrong or will be mad to look like a fool thats why you get so many your going to hell or no its not in there. They are taking it on faith instead of knowing. Used christians in my example even though its true for people of any religion

The reason why they may feel uncomfortable is because they may feel that they may give an answer which is out of their religion , and maybe because their thoughts and interpretations of their religious book , may not be in line with each other .

Many times people don't have an answer, or they do have an answer but sometimes they are not ready to respond to that particular question(s) because they need further studying on that issue, but usually a person that is in love and devoted to their faith will come up with an intelligent answer a day later of being asked or a week...Nevertheless, they will come up with a respond.

maybe because they don't have the answers. If you study the word and live by it you should be ready for challenges. Also what is with people answering questions around here and not spelling out the name of God? Whats with the "G--" Are these people ashamed?

Because if they do feel uncomfortable they haven't done enough questioning themselves. Also as much as a born again bible thumping believer telling you you're going to hell some of the questions are rude it's visa versa.

anybody who feels uncomfortable when it comes to their religion is just merely a sign of thier weakness in their faith. no matter what religion u are.

if your name is tom and someone whom u never met called you billie and swore to you that your name was billie you would standfast and argue the fact your name was tom. on the other hand when it comes to religio. u pull a man/woman to the side and start questioning their religious beliefs if they don't have faith in what they truly believe in they want standfast to it. i see it constantly over the road as a truck driver.
