It's a very kind hearted suggestion that you have.

Unfortunately with a capitalist society I don't think it will work that way. You see, the idea is to become richer and richer. There's no point helping others unless it somehow helps yourself. Why does the US focus on the Middle East? Oil. It's not because the govt is so kind hearted.

And in the poor countries they are poor because of mismanagement (eg Zimbabwe under the Mugabe regime). There are bound to be leaders who bankrupt the country while making themselves filthy rich (eg Suhartio in Indonesia), or are power hungry. And when they are given aid, there are often factions that struggle over power and aid using guns.

Countries give aid because there might be economic benefits in the future eg oil, mineral deposits (eg Iraq). Or to prevent problems that may affect them in the future eg Australia giving medical aid to Indonesia to avoid possible epidemics that might spread to Australia.

When you get older you will realise that people aren't as kind hearted as you are now. But what a wonderful place it would be if we were all willing to help each other :-)

its a great point, the sad thing i think is that many Americans don't realize that we do have the power to go into countries and peacefully help starving people and REALLY help build a nation. We could easily help with agriculture, transportation, health services, and education, the cost would be dramatically less than a military occupation. I believe if we did have a government service group that did this peacefully that it could be solely volunteer and getting people to sign up for this kind of mission would not be difficult. A lot of Americans want to do things like this and make a real difference for the people who need it most plus it would allow the USA to show the world what its goodwill can do. But it will never happen. I think a majority of Americans now have no goodwill towards foreign people. Many are against people coming here freely for a better life and would like to build a wall to keep people out of the USA. With this mindset and blind anger being in the majority the idea will be nothing but stupid and dumb, we'd rather do our helping with M-16s, bombs, and tanks and since when have those been good at 'helping' people in need.

There is no nation on earth that is not capable of feeding itself, were the food growers and producers left alone by their own governments and allowed to feed themselves. Remember, however, that most starving nations are doing so because of bone-headed political and economic policies directed toward making money that the politicians can steal rather than feeding the populations.

More products (which, through the system you propose, would cost about a billion dollars per turnip) would simply provide still more opportunities to steal.
