Why are some Christians such hypocrites?
1) Doesn't the bible say love thy neighbor?
2) Does "do unto other as they do unto you ring a bell?"

If Christianity is all about love and tolerance, then why are Christian conservatives so adamant about taking away the human right of homosexuals? Because they aren't following "good Christian values" they shouldn't allow to be legally married? I'm not talking about their marriage being recognized by the church...I mean married under the LEGAL definition which would allow them the LEGAL benefits that heterosexual couples enjoy. Guess what people gay people are just like us and should enjoy the same human rights as us!! Any thoughts?

Thank you to all that took the time to read and understand my question before answering it. I did indeed say SOME Christians are hypocrites...and at no point did I imply that hypocricy is limited to Christians. I am simply trying to understand why conservatives (which the majority are christians) seem to be against offering the same rights to gays as we as straights enjoy.

Very aptly put of the "Some" in "some Christians...", anyway here goes:

Christianity in its religious sense, not the faith, places homosexuality as a challenge to the individual, however unfair it may sound, to right him/herself. It is a challenge of faith. So yes, the religion is a challenge of faith. These are called facticities of life, something which has to be placed in order for human beings to exercise their god given free will. Otherwise, it was never free will if you were just spoonfed of a perfect world with no imperfections to right.

And about homosexuality per se, Christianity does tolerate it, but what it does not tolerate is it's propagation or in more politically correct statement: It tolerates but discourages homosexuality.

Although there is already a clear boundary between the law and the faith/church/religion, it is only a human right to express oneself, is that not correct? which also means if we have to talk about human rights:

As you are free express your homosexuality so is the individuals and the representations of these christian indiviuals as a group or a religion to EXPRESS themselves against it. So long as it is both not trampling the human rights of the other, then it would be safe to say that the arguments are fair for both sides. How the government legislation acts based on these arguments is theirs(Your government) and not the fault of the church.

Scientifically, this is just basically a basis for the basic laws of evolution; survival. Homosexuality demotes reproduction. But that is not to say transexuality is the way to go. Remember that our DNAs must not be tampered with ARTIFICIALLY. You are playing god with our genetics if you did that. You could potentially wipe out the human race with that kind of bickering going around.

I don't know about you, but I would never want that much weight on my conscience. Just think about it a while. Come on, there are also great lookers and nice people on the other side of the sexual divide, you never know, right?

Just a thought.

Every race, religion, nationality, etc. has a boat load of hypocrites, so right off the bat let me say it's not just Christians.

What I think has happened with christianity is this: things like homosexuality, women in power, evolution, popular books/movies depicting christianity in a not so great light. These things threaten to take away the power of the church, which in turn takes away the bottom line: revenue. So, the priests, pastors, pope, bishop, etc. begin to preach against these things and the congregation follows what their spiritual leader says. Amazing, isn't it? Even more amazing that some of the ones preaching about the evils of homosexuality are the ones sexually abusing children. And still being allowed to serve in an official capacity in the church.

Every single person on earth has some degree of hypocrisy. But, I do commend you for saying that 'some' Christians (rather than all Christians) are hypocrites. You are correct- that truth, I cannot deny.

I think you may misunderstand things.

As for me personally speaking, I do not think gay people should be permitted to be married. Marriage should be between a man and a woman. However, that does not mean I think gay people are bad, evil, or inferior to me. I do not think that at all.

Is marriage really a human right? Or is it a privilege granted to us by the U.S. Constitution (those of us in the USA)?

Gay people do deserve human rights- but that does not mean that they should automatically have the right to marry someone of the same sex.

Just because I say I'm something doesn't mean I am. And just because I say something doesn't mean I am educated. Ignorance is everywhere in every race and religion.

A true Chrisitian would realize that although being Gay is Biblically a sin, we are all sinners. No one is better or worse. And thus they would stay out of it. A gay Christian will go to heaven. And a gay person should have all the rights a straigt one does! Viva everyone's pursuit of happiness!

I grew up Baptist. I never was real happy with the church. I do agree about hypocrites. People love to pick and choose verses of the bible to suit their own needs and beliefs. I believe in "Judge Not" What a person does (or doesn't do) is between him and his God. As I grew up I started reading up on Wicca and found something to believe in. It is all about doing your own thing so long as you cause harm to none.
I believe gay couples should have the same rights as straight couples. One gay couple I know have been together for over 30 years. That is longer than any of the straight couples I know. Personally I don't care what a person does as long as they are not trying to force their will on others.

Because they don't love God. If you love God you will do what he says because you love him, and you will do it all the time, not just when people are looking, and not because they have to.

Homosexuality is forbidden in the Bible and is a perversion of what God intended for people. He created Adam and Eve, NOT Adam and Steve!!! I agree that Gay people are people like us, they are just decieved. Christians aren't neccesarily trying to be mean to the Gay people, (Some prob. are though...) but God teaches us to hate the sin and love the sinner. God is not willing that any should perish! But he cannot allow sin to go on...

1: People who have a real relationship with Christ will change, some gradually, some instantaneous. If there is no change then they didn't have a real experience.

2. Nobody is taking away rights from anyone. They have the same rights as everybody else. Straights can't marry same sex either. We are restricted just as much as they are, no more, no less. What they want is special rights.

yes we aren't supposed to judge but u are saying that we basically beat the homosexuals. and kick them until they get a concussion till they say they'll stop being gay. We don't do that. We tell them that what they are doing is wrong.

I respect gay people. I don't try to treat them any diffrent then i try to treat any one else. But just the gay people every one else is a sinner. even I am a sinner but because I am a christian I am saved from my sins so I know where i'm going when I die

It isn't only Christians who are hypocrites, or who scream about denying rights to homosexuals.

I'm a Christian. I also believe gays have rights, to do what they want.

But, first and foremost, I am human, like you. I make mistakes, like you. Give us a chance. We're not all haters of homosexuals.

The Christian doctrine may preach tolerance, but in real life, the only people most Christians practice tolerance with are other Christains.
