A female cat generally has 8 nipples; two rows of four, running down their belly. Occasionally, you’ll come across a cat that has five pairs (10 nipples total), but that’s not very common. Dogs, however, generally have ten nipples.

I'm not sure about the number, but here's a true story.
I have a friend who is a vet. He said a woman called him to find a way to best get rid of a tic. He told her to use a pair of tweezers and put an antiseptic where the tic was. She called him back and said the cat was bleeding where she picked off the tic and the bleeding wouldn't stop. He told her to bring the cat in. When she brought the cat in, the vet discovered that what she thought was a tic was actually the cat's nipple, and she had pulled off the nipple.
So, I guess cats can have any number of nipples, especially if they are owned by stupid people...

It all goes from genetic tree of that cat. If that's cat anciestor was able to give birth to 10 kittens, that's how your cat got it. it's normal, and your cat is very fine. On the other hand, male cat with 8 nipples, is kinda outta normal i think. maybe his DNA was under some methamorphosis under certain cicumstances, or jis got it from his anciestors too, who were exposed too something. It's all logical, but a lil complicated thing.
