You go to church not because you have to, but because you truly love God and want to serve him. You want to "fellowship" with other people who love God. God never forces anyone, he wants real love service.

In God's Word those of the Christian Faith are told not to forsake fellowship. But that dose not necessarily mean at a specific building. It is good though, to have a Church home where you are known and accepted and can recieve instruction and guidence. When you need help, emmotional or physical or Spiritul you can go to your Church home.
If you are not being fed(recieving what you need) in the congrigation you are with now, you are free to seek fellowship elswhere.
Are you joining in with what is going on with that congrigation? Or do you just sit back and not get involved?
Are you a member or do you just attend more as a visitor?
if it is a small congrigation seek out a deacon or elder, whichever they have, or the Pastor, and talk to them about your concerns.
One big thing... are you a believer or still seeking?
lots of things to take into concideration... you need to talk to someone in the church for sure.

It's kind of become water-down and stereotypical over the years, because people figure if you go to church, then you will be saved. Which is not true, because they are people who go to church every Sunday and still live like a Non-christians. Remember, it's the actions followed by baptism and repentance that people can enter the kingdom of Christ, but at the same time God judges people by what's in their hearts, as not everyone is accountable for the Bible, because some people never hear or read the word for whatever reason or been kept from doing so.
Long answer...but people are supposed to go to the church to be closer to their brothers and sisters (other followers) to be closer to God, as a result. And to above all, worship and contribute tithe/services to God.
If you don't feel comfortable at a particular, then you don't have to go for time being or until you find on that's fit more to your liking. But, wherever you go remember it's not for yourself, but for Christ.

A minister friend told me this:
People like to think of church as an escape from life. On the contrary, Church is the place to find life. Church is the hospital for the sick of heart and down spirited. It is not the place to find perfection but the place to help the imperfect.
Finding a church to attend is like taking an insurance policy on your soul. You may not need it now but why take a chance.

Not only is church Biblically mandated (as stated below), but church is very important for encouragement and accountablity.
Keep going to different churches and don't give up until you find one you are comfortable with. Make sure it's beliefs are biblically sound though, one with deep love and fellowship that adheres to traditional biblical standards.
Hebrews 10:25-
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Acts 2:42-47
42They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Romans 10:14
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Going to church is like going to a party, some are good, some are bad. Churches are made up of people who have assholes and opinions, like the non church going people have, the difference is that people that go to church weekly, or two or three times a week, need to have their opinion re-qualified more often. I take that as a weakness, not a strength.

Hebrews 10:25 is the closest thing.
You should go yourself, - to be a good example, along with helping others and yourself. How can you be a blessing to others, unless you fellowship with true believers.
For Sundays, either shop for a church by going to different ones, or stick with one. Either way, you're at church Sunday mornings, at least. And maybe even Wednesdays.
To go out and get other view points in the body-of-Christ is important. And if your battle cry is "Here I am Christ, - use me." Then being at church is practically a pre-requisite.

Hebrews 10:23-32 tells us not to forsake the gathering of the brethren. Jesus went to the temple when he as on earth and so did his disciples. Remember that Paul use to write letters to the churches, all the books of Romans, Corinthians, Ephesians, etc. were letters from the Apostle Paul to the different churches. They saw the need including Jesus and so we more than ever need to unite with out fellow brothers and sister to encourage each other and grow together.

Church is important because it's a way to get to know God better. Not that you can't read the bible or worship God at home, but it helps, because you have someone like a pastor to point you in the right direction. Pastors can tell you what the bible means if you don't understand something, they can explain it. So it's easier to understand the bible if you go to church.

Whatever you do in life, you should feel happy doing it. Its bad enough not to go to church, but to go without a real desire to be there and nourish on what is transmitted to you there is worse.
Most people see the church as just a "place", a "location" instead of a sacred part of the body of God here on earth. Try to really listen and feel it next time you are in there. I will pray that you do.

Becuase it is a place to worship God, or at least it should be. Try finding a place where you feel like you can truly worship. And then look for ways to build relationships with the poeple there. Do you HAVE to go to church to be a Christian. NO!! But it sure helps your walk out.
