Do you have a tendency to rely on their answers more so than those of people with personal experience alone? Why or Why not?

Thank you all for your answers. The reason I posted this question is because I just answered a question regarding restraints in mental health settings. I used my personal experience which contradicted that of the self labeled healthcare professionals. I am just curious to know if people are more inclined to believe their answers than mine. It doesn't really matter, I don't care who gets the 10 points, I just want people to know how it is, not how it is supposed to be.

I don't think so, I might look up there answer and check it, more than others, but you have to remember that millions of people are doctors and only half are in the top half of their class in school, so therefore, if they say they are a health care professional, the could have been the very bottom that had to cheat to get through. Also it could be just someone saying that. Either way, always double check don't take what someone tells you on here. They can help, but don't rely on it to save you life, you know.

No becuase people are crazy in this world these days and you never know. They could be lying and saying that they are health care professionals when they really aren't. Personal experience in my opinion is great becuase if that person went through it, than they know what's going on and how to help because they've been there and had to deal with the same thing.

from personal experience follow this rule of thumb.. when answering I try to absolve myself of the responsibility of the consequences of my statements.. I always advise that people talk to a doctor for verification and try not to answer questions in this section that I do not have personal experience in.. I would consider it far worse to answer untruthfully or ignorantly, than to not answer at all.
I would never rely on any answer I got from anybody on here for anything.. However, I would do my own research and come up with my own conclusions based on the information or weblinks someone was nice enough to provide.
I trust no one but myself, and I answer questions with the belief that the person reading my answers is following the same basic unwritten rules. Do your own research to verify the validity of the statements presented here and you will never be led in the wrong direction. :)

I wouldn't post a medical question on here. There usually isn't any way to know if the person is telling the truth when they say that they are a health care professional. If you are going to take their advice, confirm it first with a reliable source.

Yes, I have a tendency to rely on healthcare professionals because I believe that they have come far to their profession to know extensively about a certain disease.

Not necessarily. A healthcare professional could include someone who works in the back office, not a doctor or nurse per se.

It depends on the answer. People usually have an idea of the kind of answer that they want. They are only asking the question to see if they get an answer that validifies what they originally thought. If they do, then they will choose that one.

I wouldn't take any medical advice from here. Heck, I could tell you I'm a brain surgeon and convince you that you're headaches are nothing to worry about. When in fact, I could just be the guy who picks up your garbage.
