Ilive on the farm and deal with this very issue about every couple of months.
Get two bottles of hydrogen peroxide
add 1/4 to 1/2 cup baking soda
a squirt of liquid dish soap or bady wash something like that
mix in a bucket and sponge and pour over dog let sit for 10-15 mintues and rinse with water.
This will get rid of the smell FAR better than the tomato juice thing.
It works fairly well. Good enough that after a direct hit from a skunk mine can sleep in the house after a bath in it.
I keep 4 bottles of peroxide and baking soda under my sink i nthe bathroom at all t imes.
Good luck.

K, don't bathe him in tomato juice/paste because it will burn his skin because of the acid in it. There's a recipe online that consists of baking soda, peroxide and liquid dish soap (give him a bath in that). As for the nose, his mouth will be frothing but dont worry it's just the skunk spray coming out. Give him about a teaspoon of plain white yogurt, to get rid of the taste and the smell. Remember you can't kill the acid smell with acid. you need a base.

Wow, he was really close! The old saying is wash with tomato juice, enzymes are supposed to help with was the smell away. I can tell you that my sisters dog did get directly spayed, and every time he got wet for a year, he stunk, so I'd work at getting him cleaned up as soon as possible. Call the vet and see if they have any new fangled suggestions that work better.

Use tomato sauce or juice to bathe your pet. Also, burn some coffee beans on the stove. That will help neutralize the odor in the home. I know for a fact that police do that when they investigate a crime scene with a DOA (dead on arrival)... and there is nothing on this planet that smells worse than that!

Give your dog a bath in tomato sauce (and then a bath with his regular shampoo). That ususally gets rid of the smell.

Also, PetSmart sells shampoos specifically designed to get rid of the skunk smell! Go check it out!

Tomato, tomato, tomato - I used V8 once in a pinch. Also at Petsmart there is a neutralizer that is suppose to do wonders, I however have never tried it. Good luck!
