My coworker is driving me crazy. From simple things like everytime the phone rings she wants to know who was calling, even if the call was not for her to picking items up from my desk and reading them. Everyone else in the office has gotten use to it but it just gets under my skin. She once spent an entire day quzzing everyone trying to find out who the boss went golfing with. She is not a bad person but this one thing I just can't deal with, Please advise.

Do we work with the same person? LOL

Ask her "why do you want to know?". If she persists, let her know that it is none of her concern and you are not at the liberty to tell. Just note that it doesn't work all the time. I'm still trying to find a solution to end it once and for all.

Then again, that person is probably just paranoid and thinks everyone is talking about her. So until she gets over the fact that no one is out to get her because she's not that important, she'll keep doing what she's doing.

As for your coworker wondering who your boss went golfing with, she's probably thinking that person is talking about her with your boss.

Nosiness is one thing that I too have a really hard time tolerating.

I would try to do it the mature way and sit the person down and explain to them that you are at work to work not to chit chat and make friends. That things that you do at work are yours and your bosses business not hers. And that you are doing your job to the best of your ability but because she is forever in your face you can not and you really need it to stop so that you can thrive in your workplace.
Something along those lines.
If she does not stop then I would ignore her. Or even become closed mouthed. Not being rude but letting her know that is not her place and I do not answer to her.

If you guys have team meetings at your work place you can just ask that they bring this type of thing up without saying names or putting anyone on the spot. Just reminding people that the workplace is for work.

Good luck!

I think most people would just be rude and tell her to mind her own business. I would probably leave mouse traps on my desk. The polite thing to do is every time she asks a question that's none of her business, tell her it's classified.

Build a protective shield, possibly of steel, or copper, over your work space. It would work.. But seriously, just talk to her and tell her some stuff is personal and it would help to keep an eye on her own things more than yours.

co-workers who spend time doing this may later take their discovered confidential or private information and leverage yet more information from other workers or leverage special treatment from those who can do them favors. in the larger sense this process of doing favors for those who can do you favors is known as politics. be sure you know who you can trust. be blunt if need be to the nosy one. challenge the nosy one. lost productivity is the result of such politicking. have someone at your back.

Sounds like she has nothing better to do. I'd ask the boss to assign her more work. Or, you could just fart everytime she is starting to become nosy , condition her.

Check my asked questions-I had this too and it still happens sometimes. I say, "Why do you want to know?" and it usually stops it now. Or, "No one you know" about the phone calls. If it persists, I get angry and say, "It's none of your business." It gets old fast. About the other questions, "I've been too busy trying to get my work done-I don't know."

When she asks what you're doing, smile and say in a polite voice "minding my own business". What are you doing? Works everytime!

Everyone in the office should ask her why she needs to know? Then walk away.
That's the only answer she should get.
