Good point!
As for them being veggi beforehand...LMAO! (I wonder what that fossilized *meat* was, found in a dino's stomach? T-Rex, anyone?)
It's not just animals either, it goes right down to the microscopic level. I could point out the fact(scary word for xtians!)that there's more prey than predators too...but I won't.
Nature is cruel to be kind.

:)

Man oh man, it's amazing how so many brainwashed christians just miss the whole point of your question.

Yes, of course there needs to be population control. THATS NOT THE POINT! Your god made animals have to kill eachother to survive rather than say, just not having as much babies in their litter, or just making a set number of animals that were invincible to death, and didn't procreate.

To answer the question, "god" didn't do this because if he did then he is evil. Nature did it because thats just the way life goes. It would be nice if it were all-loving but it's not.

Life exists upon life. All things have to consume something to live. There is no valid evidence that any supernatural agency or deity had anything to do with this fact. Also, it is something of a moral judgement to define the act of hunting and consuming prey as brutal. Most people do not like to watch such things; however, that does not make these things unnatural. If anything, seeking and consuming food is very natural.

Well, think of the amount of overpopulation we would have if they didn't eat each other, or kill each other. If God were to not have made animals kill each other we would be killing them. There already is plenty of road-kill around and if animals overpopulated the Earth we would be killing many more animals, and not using them, such as eating them. At least most animals eat what they kill.

To keep the animal population down. Example- if it wasn't for hunters there would be more deer than we could handle.

Nature made it that way. It's called "The Food Chain."
Nature can be mean.
