I do not know - although I have been in the U.S twice I never had the buget to go out to a place that serves the best sushi.
I know of a very good (very originally japanese) restaurant in Amsterdam (if it still exists).
I ate there once and I still remember the food - I liked it that much
It was called Yoichi at the Weteringschans. Maybe you could call them I am sure they can recommend you good restaurants in the U.S.

vancouver bc canada we have some of the best sushi in the world cause we are right on the ocean so everything is fresh and our cultures are so diverse here.

Fog City Cafe in S.F. is fresh and flashy. You can probably find many just as good at a better price, but it is across from the wharf and the exterior of the building is highly chromed, like eating in a mirror. $2.85 for a coke. Their Angus burger is decent for those who like their cows dead.
