My Dad did it as a form of joke - all the time when I was still living with them. He knew how important it was for me not to attract attention (we were foreigners in Germany--in Germany!)....that I got embarrassed fast. He was always a rebel even as a youngster...and so I thought he was just trying to teach me a lesson- which was to loosen up. One time we were in a fine dining restaurant- Chinese restaurant to be exact. These restaurants are special occasion dining in Germany- people dress up etc. So, one time I excused my self to go to the bathroom...and when I came back I realized people looking and my little sister and Mom were giving me this look - as if something happened...immediately I got the idea and said,"No he didn't!" I tell ya...bless his soul my Dad, but yeah...I know how you feel. How do you treat someone who farts in public? Stay far away from them! My Dad actually lost a friend when he was young, because he did this in a bus and said to his friend for the other passengers to hear,"You didn't just do that!".....lol...I miss my Dad. I loved him so much no matter what....

I worked in an office where my boss would crack them off all the time. You'd be standing there, and you'd hear the POP. We all just pretended we didn't hear it, it embarrassed us more than her. Or, she would come over to my desk, bend over the filing cabinet and SNAP! sometimes silent, but always deadly. I swear it would curl your nosehair. I thought she was foul and rude, and I always figured she had no home training so it was too late for me to correct her. (Plus, I think she knew we all knew, and didn't care; alot of people don't).
I just :
1) made sure everyone knew it wasn't me (point at her when I got dirty looks), and
2) Got the hell out of there, let it air out, brought air freshener, or lit a match.
She also would take foul, foul shits and never use the bathroom spray we thoughtfully provided out of our own pockets. Nasty!

Just keep your distance. Otherwise, treat them as a person who has a disability. Unless they are a close friend with whom you can speak honestly, the polite thing is to pretend you don't notice that they have a problem. But definitely keep your distance.

LOL!! that's so funny...I just laugh my a** off. My daughters do it all the time( they are 4 and 1) and it cracks me up. I just teach them to say excuse me and tell them it is not polite to do that in public.

if you don't have a problem with the person, then pretend nothing happened...and slightly shift yourself away from the affected area. but if you do have a problem with the person, then you should look at them and give them a huge exaggerated expression implying that their fart smells.

However you would treat yourself if you are passing gas that if notpassed, could build up inside of you and potentially cause colon cancer, not to mention bad gas.

Do you not fart? Sometimes you just can't help it. Give them a break and ignore it.

Ignore it, but move away from the gases as quickly as humanly possible.

Make a "ugh!" gesture and stay away.... that will teach him not to do it again.
