Because they believe in the power of Jesus Christ. Catholics believe in The Trinity and in the duality good and evil God and satan. Actual exorcisms are very rare the person plagued with such problems has to see medical doctors, psychotrists, and other authorities before an exorcism would be prefomed. It's not a business move. Far from it and by the way Catholics aren't the only ones that use it many tribal cultures have used it, in Africa, South America here in the US, and some other Christian groups do exorcisms a heck of a lot more frequently without checking all the health\psych issues. For thousands of years pre- Christianity humans have believed in evil spirits that attack people and into the morden day across all cultures and religious\spiritual belief systems. Most may have had health problems or were mentally ill (why the Catholic church researches the case by case and why it is so rare) Though cases have been helped by exorcisms when the person is possessed by our belief by evil and even that is researched because it has to be beyond certain parameters. Why don't you rent the Case of Emily Rose, it's based on a true case. It's not good for business by the way for the person troubled or the Church. I believe there is a Evangilcal outfit out there that does a lot of exorcisms not the Catholic Church. I wouldn't comment on them. Catholic preist are trained and devoted to there calling very few of them do this kind of work. Such Evil is real may you never be faced with it

Exorcisms are rarely performed. The person to receive the exorcism must be interviewed by the archbishop, several psychologist, etc so that's how they know there is a demon in the person. Priests don't think they can get the demon out, they know the name and power of the Lord removes the demon.

If you are not baptized in the name of Jesus and have not been filled with his Spirit, then no one can cast out a demon, no matter who they are. The seven sons of Sceva in the bible teach us that.
You know when a demon is in a person when the Spirit shows you.
Also, a demon will not tolerate to be around a true believer. I have seen some try to sneak in the church, and they put up a good front , but they are found out pretty quickly.
If a person invites them into thier life, they can be in church for quite a while. This is demon oppresion, not demon possesion.
Some demons are more powerful than others.
I have known people who have come to church who filled with the Spirit and they have told me that they have seen demons on the roofs of cars waiting for those who have gone in to come back out. The same people have also seen angels on the roof of the church. I myself have not seen such but the Spirit gives diffrent things to different people at different times. I would not have beielved it but those who told me I knew well and they were not the kind of people to lie.

I do not beleive that a Catholic priest can cast a demon out of anyone. They are not filled with the Holy Ghost. You must be baptized and filled with the spirit to cast a demon out...

I've never met a Catholic priest who wanted to get demons out of anyone. And a lot of my family is Catholic. That seems to be one of those mega-church things.

Well, they think they can do about anything to make a person better. And they seem to think that when a person is possessed that they can do the work of God to get the demon out. And when a person is possessed, it is kinda obvious as to what might be happening to them.

It's another one of the things they made up to get their followers to listen to what they say. There is no such thing as "demonic possession".

Jesus, that is - God incarnate, drove Spirits out.
So why shouldn't Jesus be able to exorcise a demon through a properly ordained clergyman?

Because they put them there.
Demons only exist in a person's mind; same place as all other imaginary entities.
