Actual exorcisms are very rare the person plagued with such problems has to see medical doctors, psychotrists, and other authorities before an exorcism would be prefomed. It's not a business move. Far from it and by the way Catholics aren't the only ones that use it many tribal cultures have used it, in Africa, South America here in the US, and some other Christian groups do exorcisms a heck of a lot more frequently without checking all the health\psych issues. For thousands of years pre- Christianity humans have believed in evil spirits that attack people and into the morden day across all cultures and religious\spiritual belief systems. Most may have had health problems or were mentally ill (why the Catholic church researches the case by case and why it is so rare) Though cases have been helped by exorcisms when the person is possessed by our belief by evil and even that is researched because it has to be beyond certain parameters. Why don't you rent the Case of Emily Rose, it's based on a true case. It's not good for business by the way for the person troubled or the Church. I believe there is a Evangilcal outfit out there that does a lot of exorcisms not the Catholic Church. I wouldn't comment on them. Such Evil is real may you never be faced with it.

A) It has nothing to do with business.

B) It is a dogma of the Church that Satan exists and that he and his minions go about the earth seeking to destroy souls.

C) In rare cases experts who have studied the phenomenon of possession are convinced that possession is indeed a fact and that the individual so possessed must be exorcized. This is only AFTER exhaustive medical and psychiatric testing by OUTSIDE physicians has been done and there is absolutely NO evidence of a chemical, physical, medical or psychological reason for the individual's condition and behavior.

D) Exorcists are priests specially trained for this work, and even though there are few of them, that's ok, because there isn't much call for them. It takes a lot to convince a bishop that exorcism is the way to go.

E) There is NEVER any kind of charge if an exorcism is decided upon by the bishop.

Where DO you get these weird ideas?

There are exorcism throughout scripture. Several of the Jewish rituals are exorcisms. In the NT, Jesus and the apostles preformed exorcisms. Several of the sacraments of the Church are exorcisms, particularly baptism and confirmation. Prayers for deliverance are in the Mass and in the other prayers of the Church.

The practice of exorcisms is a part of Catholic life and spirituality.

Catholic Church does not think this is good for business, matter of fact it's not something they just jump and do. I do applaud the Catholic church because they still believe in Demons and Satan something that most churches have have choose to ignore or not recognize anymore. Which to me, if you are going to talk about God and Jesus you also have to talk about Satan and his angels (demons). It is well noted in the bible and other teachings about demon possession. Most Churches laugh at it. But look around and tell me you don't think people are demon possessed especially the ones who commit very sick and twisted crimes and even Ted Bundy mentioned something in regards to a force that changed him. I may be one of the few people in the world who believe in the Devil and his power because the world is right at this time ruled by him. Most people can laugh at me and call me crazy, but look around there is no morals or values, and what is wrong is accepted and what is good is thrown out into the garbage. Exorcisms have been around for thousands of years this is not something that just started yesterday.

Oh, I see...this is the "attack Catholics day" at your church, eh? I would be very careful in any attack on the Catholic church if I were thee...it is the original version of the watered-down Christian sects who broke away because they didn't like all the dogma of faith! And, it seems funny that, when the chips are really down, the Catholics are called in to save the day...even in the movies! I am not a Catholic, but I see no reason to make a fool of myself in attacking an institution that has been around for almost 2000 years...certainly longer than your splinter group you are working from. Have a nice day.

Another Catholic hating question? Your last one was better, it at least made a lot more sense.

Do you see priests setting up shop and handing our exorcisms? No, you don't. Its VERY hard to get an exorcism. You have to be evaluated by priests, psychologists, etc. and there's a long approval process. If the Catholic Church were using them to make money, wouldn't priests be handing them out like candy?

The Catholic Church does not exorcise souls because it is good for business. The Catholic Church exocises souls for the Spiritual wellbeing of the possessed.

Exactly, what's your problem with the church? Who said exorcisms would be good for business? Your statue question was better than this.

Most of the successful businesses in the country don't hire the church for anything.
I can't believe that Walmart or Home Depot ever use the church to exorcise anything.

Because of the elements of dualism in christianity. Where there is good there is also evil. It was also a great way to increase the no. of converts since exorcism in itself is a kind of miracle and it adds a "wow" factor to catholicism.
