If you lived on any other country you would truly see the answer. Not saying visited actually born and raised in a diff. country. This country allows the people to make heavy important decisions by voting for a leader. And still allows the people to express their feeling ,beliefs, and thoughts in public with out inflicting pain or death. This country grants so many privilaged gifts called rights and offers so much help for the unfortunate it makes the other countries jealous. Sadly too manny and for too long have and are still abusing the services specialy made for the needy. Being the best doesnt mean perfect just means most successful , we all make mistakes its human nature. What makes us better is learning from them to prevent the same one from reoccuring. If you can name a perfect country and why we're listening.

Good question! If you look just under the surface of the folks who are strongly nationalistic, you will find many sincere defenders of America, but you will also find a bunch of, "My Country right or wrong" types; God loves America best or only, types; America invented everything that is good, types; I am so feed up with anyone who would questions President Bush types; the reason we have so many gun deaths in America compared to other nations is that America does not have enough guns! types; There you go again thinking out-loud and ruining my day! types. And finally, I am not going to tell you my real motivations! types. This last catagory is the worst! types.
Well "types" are not cool. They are fact gathers who suffer from a lack of imagination. They think having a conversation is reading down a list of TALKING POINTS.

The question pre-supposes, erroneously, that the the U.S. is a homogenous group with a single ideology to which all citizens subscribe. Nothing could be farther from the truth, as our elected president, Bush, is making the calls based on his own agenda, and dissent of any kind is ignored, if not stifled outright. The simple fact that popular support for Bush is at an all time low proves that he is not speaking for the U.S., he speaks solely for the special interest groups that put him, and keep him, in office. If you are asking what makes THEM always right, the question becomes meaningless, since right and wrong cease to matter when the government is for sale to the highest bidder. Only when the electoriate stand up and say "Enough is enough, we want our Country back!" are things going to change.
A special asside to zclifton2: I spent 20 years on active duty in the U.S. military, the Nam era through Desert Storm, I grew up in the 60s and, for the record, the actual quote is "my country right or wrong, if it's right to keep it right, if it's wrong to make it right." I have lived my entire life by that injunction, as did my father, his before him, his, his, and his, and as my daughter is doing now, on active duty in the navy. This country is a reflection of all who live here, and if someone doesn't like it's direction, and sits passively by doing nothing, then they have abrogated their right to call themselves citizens of this country.

We merely think we know best - as most countries do. That's why we can't resist sticking our nose into every problem big or small all over the entire world and neglecting our own problems here on the homefront. No child left behind? HA!! How about no country left behind??

Because Americans have been ordained by God and Geezus to save the world from the heathens... I know this because Pat Robinson told me so... right after I picked myself up off the floor when Benny Henn healed me.

Not to say that we always know best, but I have been all over the world and it's the best place I've ever been. Don't take my word on it, ask all the people that try to enter every year either legally or otherwise.

Well, everyone seems to want to come here... so it can't be too bad.
I don't think we know best... I think our "ideals" whether or not they are actually put into action, are the most fair for everyone, allowing for free speech and thought, and a lot of other freedoms that humans should have the right to... but I don't think that we, as Americans, are as free as they would like us to think we are.

it doesnt when they kill civilians and anger tribal people and clans like in the east that causes blood feuds and to attack any country to get one or two targets is asinine ,,we should have hired the russian ex- spetnatz and Gay G Bey to kill saddam and osama and anyone else ,,,they live off our welfare state in russia, and would cut us a good deal,, or pay some kurds to do it and pay them a billion ,,we spend billions each month to prosecute an un popular war in the wrong places and now we are stuck fighting all sides as they should have been given their country ,,back its wrong headed

“... But a coarse old man am I,
I choose the second-best,
I forget it all awhile
Upon a woman’s breast.”
Day-break and a candle end.
For an equal quantity of freedom, quality must quench the ocult.
