You could rely on the color (Blacky, Snowball, Brownie) or on the fur type (Puff, Fluffy, Slick), or play off the "cat" theme (Kitty, Tiger, Panther. Simba)

cute names include Buttons, Cocoa, Whiskers, Brownie, Choco chip, or Pooky. Socks, Boots, or Tiger could be used depending on the kittens markings. Stay away from Claws, Litter Box Misser, Poop Eater and Playful Puss.

If you hold your kittens next to each other and look at them, you should definitely be able to tell if they are male or female. If they are all the same then they are all male or all female.

What's the difference? You think the cat, older, will realize it was given a name usually given a cat of the opposite sex?
Years ago I named a cat Princess, because it was so pretty and graceful I thought it to be female.
My vet burst my bubble.
He asked me the same question I've asked you.
My cat stayed Princess, the prince, till it died.

A cat has four rows of whiskers.

A cat falling from twenty floors has a better chance of surving than a cat falling from the seventh. It takes eight floors for a cat to realize what is occuring, relax and correct itself. (Where, pray tell, was this experiment conducted?)

If you are considering making music from a dead feline, forget it. Catgut comes from sheep, hogs, and horses.

You went on to say, "I've just came across a big old tomcat or janecat can't tell the difference. How do I tell what sex the cat is before his vet visit on Thursday so I don't look like a complete ding-dong? Thanks."
Look under his/her tail. If he is a "whole" (unneutered) tom, it should be obvious. You'll see his testicles. If he has been neutered, look closely and you may see two very small remnants of the sac. Otherwise, it's probably a female. Don't feel bad, though, if you're wrong-- even the experts are fooled at times.

I like to name them by the color of their coat. For instance i have a orange cat named honey and a orange and white cat named twinkie!

name them after cheeses, i did, i live in wisconsin and i named my kitties after the cheeses that their colors look like.

orange- Cheddar Cheese
calico- Jersey Bleu (which is a bleu cheese)

and i had thought of other ones, like if it was orange and white, colby jack, or white- bree, or yellow- munster, white with spots- swiss. you get the point!!
