It's a very reliable vehicle. In fact, just this week Toyota sold its 500,000th Prius world wide. The Prius is touted as being the best hybrid on the market. It's been on sale in Japan since 1997 and should have absolutely no problem standing up to 178 miles a day. Many cities, such as Vancouver, use the Toyota Prius in taxi fleets. Those vehicles travel about 80,000 miles year. So far they've been great.

Can't go wrong with a Toyota when it comes to reliability. Two of my best friends are Toyota Technicians and they can't say enough about the quality.

I believe it's the most reliable hybrid out there. Since Toyata pretty much has reliable cars down I would think so - It is probably the same as buying a corolla.

absolutely. it's a toyota. the hybrid system does FANTASTIC over longer distances too. we've driven 1000+ miles straight multiple times now and have had no trouble whatsoever. my husband fixes these things for a living... let's just say if he only fixed priuses for a living he'd work 1 day a week.

Find out how well the tires wear. I was just in a tire shop this week and a man was getting his 4th set of tires on the car. He wasn't too happy about it. (Older, retired man.)

There is a cab driver that drives Priuses. He's on his 2nd or 3rd with them racking up over 200,000 miles.
