You can't make people happy, and you can't change them. Happiness and change comes from within an individual; not the people they surround themselves with. Don't do anything that you might regret later. On the other hand, there are things you can do for your friend that may make them feel good about themselves and you as well. Try doing some things that emphasize the positive characteristics of your friend to show him how much you like him. Yes-it could also be sex if you are both mature enough to handle it, and you are safe about it. If you are under 18 years of age, my advice to you about sex is wait until you are sure that you want to be with that person for the rest of your life.
Then again, I'm 42 with no prospects, so who am I to give relationship advice.
