Ever hear of the power of suggestion? Studies show that patients who are depressed typically worsen in their condition as opposed to those who are not.

There is a great deal of discussion of what the power of the mind has over our physical selves. Many times, with chronic thoughts about being sick someone can become sick, but often it is just a coincidence that one thought of being sick and became sick. Many people who believe they are ill are not.. but are more anxious about becoming ill.... which is an illness in itself. Fortunately, we are researching more the power of our minds to help when there is illness present. Such as with meditation, prayer and hypnosis. There is evidence that these forms of using our mind are helpful when we are ill. There is much benefit to discover if thinking ourselves sick actually promotes illness, although, I don't believe it is helpful to think about being sick. Unless, you do want to play hookie from your work or school, but then again, are we "really" sick ?

Yeah, there is a mind/body connection i.e. even when one calls in sick, that person can become sick even though, they weren't really to begin with!
