My male cat will be 1 year old in october. Just recently he has taken up some aggrivating activity. He jumps on the sofa or my sons bed and poops. I keep his litter box clean but I dont understand why he does it or how to keep him from doing it. I have tried to showing him what he has done, telling him he's a bad kitty and putting him in a carrier for about 15 minutes. I have done this repeatedly but it is not working. His feces shows no signs of worms. It's really making me mad but I dont want to get rid of him.

I have found that when cats defecate outside the litterbox it's one of 3 things:

1) There litterbox is dirty or somthing about the litterbox has changed. Maybe you changed the location of the box? Changed brands of litter? Maybe the litter has been reformulated or has a different odor? Maybe he wants more privacy for himself when he uses the litterbox? Whatever it is, the cat doesn't like it.
2) You have pissed them off somehow and they want to let you know about it. For example, I had a cat growing up that would poop right outside my mom's door if she didn't get up early enough to feed him his breakfast. It was only occassionally but it was bizarre.
3) He is sick and needs to see the vet.

Unless you catch him in the act, no amount of negative reinforcement is going to work. If you can catch him in the act, then you can scold him and immediately lift him up and put him in the litterbox.

Some tips would be to add another box or change litter brands to an unscented one perhaps. Also, make sure his litter is not close to his food. Cats hate that. Make sure it's clean as possible and as private as possible. Believe it or not some cats are quite modest. Good luck.

First of all, cats do not understand this type of punishment; they are not like dogs. He probably should be nuetered, if he isn't already. If he is, then I suggest putting a cat box in that same room, even if it is temporary. You need to have at least two boxes (the rule is 1 box per cat +one more box). Make sure you clean the mess up entirely...cats have a better sense of smell than we do. Also, you could try putting a carpet runner with the pointy side up on the bed during the day. All else failing, can you just keep the door to his room shut?

This action may be a sign of your cat trying to mark his territory. Has he been neutered? Has there been other cats on the sofa or bed before this cat? If so, he could be smelling their scent and getting upset. Putting him in a carrier is not going to help. Would you like to be put in a metal cage for 15 minutes if you are bad? I'd suggest calling up your local vet and just ask them what they think you could do to help this problem.

I have a male cat that did this and I brought a plastic table cloth and put it on the bed and he would not soil the plastic table cloth. I had changed to different brand cat litter I think he did not like it and also he did not like the cover on the litter box. I have a Persian and Himalayan, they will pee in one box and poop in the other litter box, but will not pee and poop in the same box. Just try to observe his habits especially with the litter box and you can pick up if he likes to use his box. Sprinkle catnip inside the litter box will help also.

I had this problem with my female cat.

Either he's bitchy, or there's something about the litter box that he doesn't like. Maybe it's the location, or perhaps you or your son is doing something he doesn't like. Make sure he has access to the litter box at ALL times, also. Cats are very picky! Maybe it is the litter, it self...I had to change litters several times...

have a cat the use to pee in the bathtub and poo on the floor. so put a litter box in the bathroom and she uses it and goes no where else. you might want to try and put the litter box in a more private place and see if that helps any.

The cat is upset with something/someone, he is acting out. take to vet, maybe somethings wrong. Last resort place a small cork...... Worms can be microscopic and you wont see them.Take sample to vet. Showing him what hes done wrong wont help he thinks "Yea poop, you like, I'll do another tomorrow"

Maybe he is not getting enough attention. Or maybe you should put another litter box near the places where he poops.

well u ll have to lock him up longer each time you catch him just completing the act, so that he can see a clear connection between his act and his punishment. also try using some sawdust in his litter box.

He's growing up, mom!! He probably needs to be neutered. That usually solves a lot of problems. Take him to the vet and do the deed.
