It's been difficult to determine the question many times when I've scrolled down the questions list, and it amazes me at how many do it. I mean, there's a difference between an obvious typo and illiteracy! Who here are as frustrated as me with this? But, it doesn't deter me from answering questions, or asking them. Just wondering....

Sometimes I wonder about people who post here who say the are going to attend a university, yet they misspell words and their grammar is simply awful. Makes me wonder what kind of university they will be attending. Some questions posted are almost incomprehensible, what with poor spelling, and bad sentence structure. Sometimes, I know very literate people will misspell on purpose... but I don't do that myself. I like to see words written correctly. I try to correct my own sentences, most of the time. I don't know, is it that people want to sound/look dumb so they "fit in"?

I do realize that this site has people from all around the world, and for many, English is probably not their native language, so grammar and spelling may be difficult for them. I'm not frustrated, but I do censor what I read at times, based on the type question, and the literacy of it too. I figure, if someone cannot write pretty much correctly, they will probably be clueless as to what I write in my replies. Maybe that is presumptuous on my part, but I do like to use words that a barely literate person probably won't be able to read or understand.

Then again, spelling doesn't always affect my replies, especially with kids.

I agree. I can't help myself sometimes because I am an English teacher and I have to practice what I preach. I have found many of the questions frustrating - people who are unable to express the question they want to ask - or provide decent information to support the question. Some questions have nothing to do with the explanation given. It is frustrating, but it says one thing about our Yahoo Family - we all accept each other and we learn from each other and as we grow, we teach. Each one, teach one.

I don't mind misspellings as long as I can still tell what you meant. It is a little frustrating when questions do not make sense because they got cut off or the person did not word it right.

Sure but it has been found out through testing that your mind will make the necessary corrections for you. Some people do it just to see who they can annoy.Wouldn't hurt for people to use the free spell check though.Peace
