I took Wellbutrin XL. It took about 3 or 4 weeks, but worked very well.

At this moment I am taking medication for depression. The doctor prescribed Zoloft. I find that it is helping to some extent but at the moment it is a low dose and may have to be increased. I find that I am not thinking about suicide as much as I had. Before I felt like my head was ready to explode but I find my self somewhat more relaxed but my mind is still running a million miles a minute. I have a hard time sleeping. Even the sleeping pill my doctor gave me I find is not doing the job.

One thing to think about. Is it depression or mood? If it is moods then you probably can get away with taking B12. I have a daughter that is being treated for mood swings. Her B12 level was 141 and should be between 200 and 625.

There is alot of medication out there that people use. But only you can tell if it is working. If you find that you haven't changed then report it to your doctor and maybe try something else.

Good luck and hope you find the right med for you.

There is a couple of medications I am taking know for depression, paxil and wellbutrun. They work for me now and have for some time, but let me warn you. Everyone is different when it comes to anti-depressants. Because I take and can tolerate two PARTICULAR types of med's, does not mean much for you. However, med's of this kind can be life savers and are such for many people. You just have to work closely with a Doctor, period.
And, you have to expect adjustments will be made on the type and amount of a medication you will be prescribed.

DO NOT TRY TAKING THESE MEDICATIONS WITHOUT PROPER GUIDANCE FROM A MEDICAL DOCTOR!

Also, medications do not solve the problem, they allow you to live with the problem and even work to improve the problem through therapy and education, for example.

I think the majority of people take at least a mild anti-depressent at some point in their lives...people will argue this, but it's soooo common. They take it for many different reasons, some not related to depression at all. I take one for SAD (seasonal affective disorder) and for sleeping through the back pain at night. The ones for the SAD that I've taken are very low dosages of Zoloft and Paxil. Both work fine, but sometimes your insurance will cover one and not the other. Good luck...give it time...at least 2 weeks, and you'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel as the seritonin in your brain is replaced and you become normal again. Good luck.

Prozac- I took it to offset depression and anxiety I experienced during experimental chemotherapy. It worked wonderfully. I am no longer taking it. My case may have been special because the side effects from the treatment were extreme depression and suicidal ideation, and although I was depressed I was never suicidal (Note: my depression was greatly lessened while taking the drug.). Also it should be noted that because of the circumstances of my taking the drug- we had pharmaceutical permission to exceed the dosage.

It does postpone the depression, but does not help assuage the causes of depression. So, best thing is to go to a person in whom you trust and have a full hardy, heart to heart discussion. There is some unanswered questions in your mind; you must dislodge it. You will feel, light. You need a friend in whom you can trust and so that you can unburden your feelings. Steroids and drugs are no remedy. It may give you temporary relief.

Someone I know takes "Elavil," (a very old, but good antidepressant--and very cheap). That person has tried all the newer ones with no success - the Elavil helps this person to eat, sleep, and do everyday chores (including getting out of bed and taking a shower--which can seem like chores when one is depressed).

I have taken Wellbutrin for a couple years and am very glad I do. It made my life a lot better and it made my wife and my kids a lot happier because I'm happier. It usually takes a couple weeks to work, but one moring you will wake up and see things differently. It won't fix everything, but it will greatly improve your happiness and in turn your quality of life.

Tried many. Paxil, prozac, zoloft, wellbutrin, effexor, celexa, etc. The only one that ever worked was parnate, an MAOI, which your doctor is probably unlikely to prescribe, since it requires a strict diet. Deviations from the diet will give you extremely high blood pressure, which can give you a stroke, and can kill you (I know someone personally who died from this).
