Whirlpool has strived for energy efficiency which may become the most important consideration with electric bills rising. A top freezer design is most efficient and choose a smaller rather than larger model with no external ice/water door options for better efficiency. Whirlpool used to make some Kenmore/Sears models.

If buying one of the big 3 then Frigidaire
If you want one of the best. Look at Sub-Zero or Thermador.
FWIW Kenmore is made by Frigidaire and Whirlpool.

GE. It's okay, bought it because I was able to get a special trade discount on GE. Probably would have chosen another brand. It's not bad, but the ice maker is not the best I have seen.

GE's higher end are great, but you can usually find a lower end GE for much less with the same features (your paying for the "profile" logo when it's still GE),
Those new freezer drawers suck unless you get them with an Ice despencer because you have to bend down to get ice, and I live in a house with no air conditioning so that just sucks bad, but they are great if they do have the in-door dispenser.
p.s. LG sucks!

I have a SubZero, and I am thrilled with it. It's built in, so it's shallower (and wider) that most large refrigerators. Less food gets "lost" in the back. It has an alarm that goes off if the door is left open! And, it's virtually silent; I have never heard it run.
