You don't have to learn Spanish. You don't have to learn any foreign language to graduate from high school or even college. The foreign born immigrants had to learn English when they came here from Europe, esp in the 1800's and1900's so they could work in the mills or even stores. In the 1960's when I grew up English was it. They had the Spanish speaking option in the bordering states such as Texas and California because they had a large population. It wasn't until the 1980' s when they started putting in the Spanish options at the ATM and on TV nationally..

Because it b r o a d e n s your horizons, the more languages you master, the more opportunities you'll have in life. I speak, read and write, perfectly, English, Spanish, German, Catalan, Italian, French and Afrikaander. I have never made less than a six figure number a year in any job I've ever had, and it's not because I'm better than the next person, it's because of the languages i speak.

Because, if you notice now a days, whether buying food in a grocery store, or entering a store, it's in English and Spanish, I think that is wrong, because if Mexicans want to live in the U.S. they should read and speak English. But, everything is so Multi-cultural now a days, that it seems the U.S. tends to everyone's needs even if it means labeling things in English/and in Spanish.

You're not required to learn it, but there are many people who speak Spanish exclusively or speak English poorly that there is a great business advantage in knowing how to communicate with them.

Well, spanish is an important language to learn....i think it is the most common language in the world. And the U.S. borders Mexico, so if you live anywhere in the southern U.S. then Spanish is a very good thing to learn.

You don't have to learn Spanish. They need to learn English and the schools need to stop offering bilingual classes. I don't know a lot of Spanish, but the reason I know a little is because my niece is half white and half mexcian.

Who said that people in the U.S. were _supposed_ to speak anything? There's no official language. It's just that English is the language with the most economic power right now.
