is a case in point.

Are there really so many people in this world who have so little respect for other humans that they make fun of them like this? Perhaps they have never been humiliated themselves.

Should one report them for 'Insulting other Participants' or would that not be Christian?

As far as the question referred to is concerned, it may or may not have been asked in all seriousness. My perception is that a lot of kids come here to ask questions which genuinely trouble them and which they would not dare ask of their peers or parents, particularly those for whom English is not a first language. There are, of course, a lot of people who regard Answers as a game where you can ask outrageous questions and get hilariously serious answers. I really don't have too much of a problem with that - I am quite prepared to be laughed at for being informative and I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt, if there is any, concerning the genuineness of the question.

Heh,

Not sure English was the problem with that one Owl. But aside from that, and I am far off my normal boards at the moment...

Yeah, people have very little respect for behavior they do not understand, for whatever reason.

If they cannot wrap their pointy little minds around it, they make fun of it. Of course I make fun of everything if you hadn't noticed.

I heard that. Flagon is going to have to slap you, and it hurts.

5000 points folks. I wanted to get there on an Owl post. Level 5.

I have a lot of respect for the guy, and wanted to do it on one of his questions.

Later.

There are plenty of examples of that. It makes me crazy. It's merely that people have nothing positive to say and it makes them feel good about themselves to put down other people.

Only an hour ago I posted a question using the word 'learnt' and one of the first answers was someone saying something about 'I went to college and I learned how to spell'... It doesn't even matter whether the asker's English is poor; these people will criticise anything that they don't understand...

I don't make a practice of reporting them, but I might start, as it really shows an amazing amount of intolerance and will slowly drive non-native speakers off this site.

Several reasons I can think of, the biggest being most people need to make fun of others to feel better about themselves.

Another reason: check the average age of those doing the insulting.

Yet another: intolerance.

Is reporting something you find abusive non-Christian? I don't think so. Is making fun of grammar insulting other participants? Strictly speaking, I don't think so. In a sense it's insulting their writing style, not insulting them, their culture, their race or their spirituality.

I'd say if it's bothering the poster of the question, THEY should be the ones reporting it. If not, I say leave it be.

Had the original question been something a little more ... um ... acceptable for polite company there still would have been a person or two having a good poke at that person.

But I've seen many questions that the grammar was TERRIBLE on that did get sincere answers.

When you put your business out on the table, you have to expect somebody to make fun of it ... so to speak. ;-)

Ignorant people are the ones that make fun of whatever they can get their eyes on. I think that just having the courage to post something in a language that you know don't master is sufficient by itself. People who make fun of others only show their little self respect as the only way they have to feel better inside is to make fun of others-

The fact that you chose this particular question to make an issue of grammar over, speaks volumes (or should I say lack of) for your abilities to make rational judgements.

yeah so many people forget that english is often a second language for many people..and even if you use spell check it doesn't help if you are not sure of the right spelling for a word it comes up with the closest options to the letters that you used not always the word that you wanted to say..... and then you get american spell check and english spell check aswell ...its basically that people laugh at those they feel superior to...

because of the fact i think that verbal replace/awareness is the considerable to fixing maximum folk of the topics confronted by potential of guy variety at present and interior the destiny, it frustrates me to no end to attempt to envision some the failings I see right here. you could oftentimes tell whilst someone is suffering to earnings/talk/write in english on account that may no longer their first language. those individuals deserve endurance and extra artwork for me to appreciate them. it rather is the folk who do no longer hardship themselves to spell properly that force me loopy. incredibly seeing that there's a "spell verify" so available. Plus, we've adequate time to edit ourselves beforehand we placed up our Q's & A's. I stay with 2 of my youthful nieces, 11 & 17, who're worlds aside whilst it incorporates expressing themselves. They went to the comparable faculties and had a number of the comparable instructors. the extra youthful of the two feels this is totally suited to apply "text fabric talk" whilst writing something, whether this is a word or college artwork. She does not/refuses to appreciate why she failed English this 365 days and has to circulate to summer season college. i do no longer blame the instructor one bit. i understand that she has the potential and vocabulary. She does a alluring job of it whilst she needs to. Her poetry is remarkable. She tells me that her acquaintances understand her variety of writing and that's actual all that concerns. She is youthful although and that i think of/wish there is the prospect for her to alter her perspectives. i do no longer think of the equipment has failed her in any respect. She chooses to no longer use the approaches available to her.
