As with any female under stress , medically and emotionally, shedding is normal. Carrying the puppies has depleted her nutritional supplies, and depending on what types of foods and supplements she was given during her gestation (pregnancy) will decide how much (if any) hair loss and nutritional loss she will have. Once she is done nursing and spayed, you can place her on a "top shelf food" and supplement her with Missing Link Plus, Vta-Coat or Lin atone to help her come back to peak form in no time. It's all about nutrition and good health care.
Wish you the best with her. Adopting a dog who has been in "slavery" is a very honorable thing. Now maybe she can be the happy "pup" she should be.

Oh it is very normal. It happens to every dog, after having puppies and three months after they come in heat. Don't be worried about that it will grow back. And the other question is smiple...exercise. Just take the dog out to jog with you,and chasing around her pups is exercise too. ;) I raise, breed, show and train dogs so I know a lot about this kind of stuff. Trust me, :)

Yes, it's entirely normal. The hair will grow back. Just check for scaly, thickened or bumpy skin with reddish spots or discolored areas, especially around the face and feet. That could mean mange or another skin condition.

Sadly and unfortunately it does happen. There are various reasons why mothers eat their young. Sometimes it is because they are nervous (a lot of activity around the nest can cause that). Also if a puppy is dead, they will eat it to get it away from the nest.

Yes female dogs "blow" their coats, this is due to the plummeting levels of hormones. As to her extra weight, give her some time to recover from giving birth, she will probably lose it by herself.

Dogs (and cats) will shed coats when subjected to high amounts of stress. Giving birth and new homes.
