Is there anyone who has seen him/her? I am sorry to hear that you lost your doggie. There are several ways to go about finding your doggie. I will list them.
1. Ad in the local paper. Include recent picture if possible. Also put a number where people may call and let you know if they have info on where your dog is. Another thing that is helpful is to offer a reward. I know it's impossible to put a price on love, but you might consider a reward if the the ad and the pic don't seem to be doing well.
2. Fliers with dog's name, your name and contact info and any reward info.
3. Call the radio station and tell them. Ask them if you could go on the radio and about how you lost your dog (anything that would help such as you found the gate open when it should be closed--things like that). Mostly, though just tell that you lost your doggie and that you want her/him back. If the D.J. at the radio station asks you if there is any reward, you can either say "Yes" or "No". For myself, if I lost Little Bit, I would want to offer a million dollars as a reward, but I don't have that kind of money. If you decide on a reward, that's O.K. and if not, that's O.K. too. It's just that some people are more forecoming with info if there is a reward, however small. But if you decide not to post a reward be sure and tell them that everything that is done is very much appreciated--there is no monetary value on love.
4. This next one is a long shot, but I'll list it anyway. Call the police and let them know. Maybe you'll find some officers who are dog lovers and they'll be glad to help or they could help anyway especially if your dog disappeared while you were out of town.
5. The fifth one is very important. Tell any and everyone that you meet that you have lost you dog and you are looking for him/her. Ask if they've seen him/her. Carry a picture of the dog. Pull it out and ask them to look at it. Give them your contact info on some paper so you might want to take along a memo pad.
In short, these things add up to one thing. Don't give up. Hang in there. Check the animal shelters. Your dog might have been picked up as a stray. Be sure and check them.
Good luck and I hope that you find your doggie.

Then drive around locally and look for it. Inform the local shelters and veterinarian clinics that your dog is loose, and print out flyers with a picture and basic information, and post them in your neighborhood, and surrounding neighborhoods. Petstores, too.
Now, if you meant 'lost' as in, your dog is now deceased....
I'm terribly sorry to hear that.
