the fish is a gold fish
and i put the male and female in because i hate it when people give me response like
"well technically a fish can never be either, a dude is a part of a camel's anatomy and a chick is a baby bird. so if your fish turn into either it would be pretty impressive."

The female is smaller and usually a lot uglier. Like brown while the male is blue.

Usually by the anil fin. Seriously, the fin on the bottom of the fish is called the anil fin. On a male fish it is usually thin er and on a female it is fatter. I'm not sure if that stands true on every breed of fish but it does on a lot of them. Or, whichever fish spends more time on the phone is usually the female fish. :-)

it seems like the brighter color ones are usually males... it think.. ok, get the two fish, which ever one gives birth is the female, the other should be your male

females are usually dull in color, males brighter...but it depends on the type of fish. you can also tell by the shape of the fins...but again....you need to know what fish you have.

same way you can tell the sex of most animals - if they are dull in colour they are female and if they are more vibrant and brilliant they are male. in the animal kingdom it's up to the male to always impress the females!

Here is the easiest way to tell...feed your fish...
if he eats it, it's a "dude"
if she eats it, it's a "chick"

sometimes by the coloring of the fish..or how long its fins are

if it lays the eggs then it's probably female
