I can't say I'm saddened by it, more baffled at how someone can claim to know the truth of something without actually looking into all aspects of the argument. Like when I ask if they have read anything else to justify their statement, they say 'No. the bible is all I need!'....Baffling.

it does make me sad that they say theres no proof for evolution....when theres more proof for that then there is of anything they take from the bible.
I LOVE how they use the statement, "If we all evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?" like it disproves evolution.
If ANYTHING it PROVES evolution, since evolution states that there was some common ape thousands upon thousands of years ago, and that the species BRANCHED OUT.
Look at a tree limb. Just cause a branch splits doesn't mean it only goes in one, different direction. it branches cause it divides, and the divisions go on their merry way through evolution.
OUR branch eventually gave way to humans, through cro magnon man and cavemen and all that.
THE OTHER (or others) branch gave way to apes as we see them today, cause the chimpanzee and the gorilla and the orangutang were not in existence back then the way they are today.
If anything, the fact that monkeys ARE here and SO different from ONE ANOTHER is living proof of evolution.
But what do i know? They say i believe in evolution so i hate God and i'm going to hell.
You know what? if I'm going to hell because i beleive in evolution and refuse to take the Bible literally, and i have no problem with homosexuality, and think the POSSIBILITY exists that Jesus could have been married.... then i'm gonna have a lot of GREAT company.

I started to respond to that question, and then - like you - I just felt too sad. So I left it be. I've been trying to stay away from the evolution/creationist non-debate because it's far too depressing.
Actually what bothers me is that most of them will make no effort to educate themselves. They wear their ignorance as a badge. That might have been a genuine question, but you know it's really an attempt at self-satisfied 'cleverness'.
One person recently wrote that his biology teacher shouted out 'You come from God! End of story!' and then refused to teach the chapter on evolution in his textbook, reading instead from the Bible. This person was American and he said that nobody said anything about the teacher. That, I think, is the saddest thing I've yet to read on the topic of evolution.

It's not so much "belief"...it's just understanding that they lack. If anyone with some intelect took the time to look at the facts and evidence supporting evolution it would become clear to anyone. And I'm not talking about pseudo-scientific intelligent design proponents supposed "proof against evolution" (which doesn't exist and every little bit of it has been revoked)...I'm talking about real scientists. There is plenty of information out there...some people just don't bother looking at that side of the story.

No, it's not sad. What's sad is that people think that evolution is a foregone conclusion, an absolute fact and it simply isn't... it's a theory. Look around you, why is it so hard to believe that all this may have been created?
Hey, it really doesn't bother me what people believe. Everyone has the opportunity to draw their own conclusions on these questions.

The sadness that I feel is that I am alone. (Or at least I'm part of a small minority) The "stranger in a strange land" comes to mind. It makes me sad that I was born about 100 years too early, and I'm surrounded by a population, 85% of whom are suffering from an insanity that is very difficult to cure.
It's really a bizarre time to live in. I'm considering writing a book about it, as a matter of fact.

I really don't want people to 'believe in' evolution. I want them to give serious consideration to the evidence and educate themselves about evolutionary theory, and then see if they agree it makes sense or not.
The thing that saddens me isn't that people don't accept evolution, it's that they reject it without even knowing anything about it, because of a 3000 year old myth written by ignorant ancient bedouin.

Yeah actually, evolution is a scientific fact, it is not a doctrine or a religion. To me not believing in evolution is like not believing the world is round, just ignorance.

Evolution is not something to be believed in like religion. It is a tested proved scientific fact, whether or not we believe it. Evolution is true, that settles it, whether or not I believe it.

Uuum, if you give it a thought, we have not evolved, but we are evolving. Only the pasts of us evolves, not the existing us.
