I have often wondered the same thing.Being lonely is one of the worst feelings. I guess it can be hard to form relationships as we get older. I think that computers are very helpful to people that feel nervoues to talk to other people.I know it has helped me to feel less all alone. If you feel lonely you can talk with me. I'll be here for another couple of hours.

why are there still so many lonely people on the Earth....there, that's better. And how the heck do you expect anyone to be able to answer that.....there are millions of reasons for people to be lonely!

I was abused as a child and married an alcoholic to get away from it. I get lonely because I haven't got a clue how 'normal' people act.

Because of all this modern world has to offer and the growing rage of "Going your own way, and doing your own thing." This is typefied by the way people talk over the cell phone despite being right in each other's faces.
People have become so fiercely independent that they unknowingly disconnect themselves from everyone else.

People feel that they are the only ones that feel the way they do, particularily when it comes to loneliness and depression, and are afraid to voice how they feel. Hence the reason chat on the internet is soooooo huge - anonymity is a wonderful thing in such a judgemental society.
