I live in central England (Berkshire - Oxfordshire) and would like to try Sushi - though I don't think we have any Japanese restaurants close by. And so I'd have to settle for the next best thing!

What's the best pre-packed Sushi you can buy, out of, say Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, Sainsburys, Tesco etc. Or is there a better place locally to get good Sushi?

Many thanks!

Fresh Sushi is the best. But if you want to give it a try there are a few options for you.

M&S
Boots
Waitrose

I think you're closest option for Sushi if you want to try it fresh, is to hop into London. Any easy restaurant to find is Yo! Sushi as they have so many locations. See the link below. They also have a large selection of options - so you can try different things.(Paddington Station is probably the easiest one to find, get off the train and it's right there!) They have some restaurants outside of London, but nothing in our area.

One other thing - if you like Japanese food. Wagamama is a fantastic Japanese noodle bar! They have a few locations around including Reading. For my fix of Japanese food, I head there! Not quite the same as Sushi - but sooooo good! ;o)

The best place is probably a sushi bar - I'm afraid I don't know your area, so can't advise which one.

But if not - my guess is that M and S would be the best. But it might be fun experimenting and finding the one you like.

I can also personally recommend the Tesco one - I used to buy it on my way to work in Hammersmith, London, and eat it with some freshly squeezed orange juice, sitting in a park.

Almost as good as being in Japan!

Marks And Spencer Sushi

Well, I used to like Marks and Spencer's sushi- but they stopped doing my favourite- the nigiri selection. Still, their sushi is very good and I believe they have a number of new selections out, including 'sushi to snack' which is a small box perfect for trying it for the first time.
Surprisingly, Boots also do excellent sushi. It is part of their 'shapers' range but has a nice selection box with cucumber makis, omelette nigiri (my favourite!!), prawn nigiri and salmon nigiri. They also have a box with california rolls, but they aren't really to my taste. I've never seen or tried Tesco's sushi, but then I don't shop there so it could be very good, I don't know.

Hope this helps!

there is no such thing as good prepacked sushi. and theres not much to choose between them either. if you want to make your own its only the rice you need to find as the fish suger and vinegar part can be bought anywhere. some oriental supermarkets sell sushi starter kits

Ewww! I don't understand how people eat that raw fish! I seen it at my local Chinese Restaurant, and it stinks! Why not buy cheap goldfish and eat that? :P
