They used oil lamps at that time, ones that you can even make if you want. All it takes is some oil, a container and a wick. A simple lid will do for the container, then you put some oil in it and take a cotton string and wet it with the oil and when it is soaked, you want to leave a bit for lighting and then you can put fire to it and it will burn for some time. I am sure he had more elaborate lamps as he would have made them from clay. He could also use torches and then there was natural light during the day that could come in from the top of the ark.

He couldn't have used any kind of light. Remember, according to the instructions, the only ventilation was a row of tiny windows at the top. This would not have been nearly enough to release all the methane gas that collected from the poop of thousands of animals, so any flame that was lit would have resulted in the entire ark exploding. So, for all that time, everyone lived in total darkness. Too bad God didn't think about that when he was giving Noah the blueprints.

edit: Okay, I like Mr. Mister's answer better. ^_^

In some ancient ruins they have found clay jars with metal in them and the remains if citric juices (citric acid). Someone got curious one day and tested out a theory about them and found out that they were actually a very ancient form of a battery and they you could actually use them to light a very low watt bulb. It is my opinion that this was what was used. Using candles and oil lamps would have been too dangerous and since the earth was covered over in heavy rain clouds, there would have been so sun, moon, or star light.

Here is a link for you on this subject (just looked them up quickly)
