I think it is accurate for the south and Atlanta, GA. The book and movie was more about the romance and not the war, even though it was during the war. Either way, it is a classic and a good read, so how can that be wrong. Try doing some research for the time period of the book and see if it matches. But, Margaret Mitchell lived in Georgia, and I would assume that she did research on the history before writing the book.

I believe it is accurate, but there is much more detail that you can get from reading nonfiction works on Reconstruction.
