It depends on how thick you want your mulch layer to be. 3 inches is a good thickness in my experience. So, multiply 222 sq. ft. by the thickness 0.25 ft and you get 55.5 cubic ft. Now, since each bag holds 2 cubic ft of mulch, divide 55.5 cubic ft by 2 cubic ft per bag, which results in 27.75 bags, round it up to 28 bags. Happy gardening.
