HOMEMADE SUBSTITUTE FOR BAKING POWDER

2 tbsp. cream of tartar
1 tbsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. cornstarch

Sift together. Store in airtight container. One teaspoon of this is equal to 1 teaspoon store bought baking powder.

Baking is like chemistry so you have to be really cautious which ingredients you adjust. Baking soda and baking powder are NOT interchangeable. Your cake will not turn out right. Its worth the trip to the store.

BAKING POWDER
1 tbsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. cream of tartar
2 tbsp. Arrowroot
Mix ingredients together in small bowl with a wooden spoon. Crush any lumps.
Store in a tightly covered jar, in a cool dry place.

MAKE YOUR OWN BAKING POWDER
Use 2 parts cream of tartar
1 part baking soda--Sugar reducer:--
Make only as much as need for recipe as it will keep a couple of days or so.
Use 1/4 teaspoon to 1/2 teaspoon soda and half the sugar in fruit pies and
crisp and fruit salads, etc. Start with 1/4 teaspoon soda and taste for
sweetness.

You can't substitute baking soda for baking powder. They are two different products which act differently.

no you have to have baking powder or it won't rise, soda is not the same.

u can try a little extra flour and yeast
or maybe some corn starch....

no - do not do that. It will come out hard as a rock - I learned from my mother's mistake on that one.
