I am looking at 2 models. The Cannon EOS 35D and the Nikon D70s. Does anybody have any experience with either of these. Any advice on Pros/Cons of either model would be much appreciated. Thank you

The answer depends on how much knowledge you have of cameras. To start with the basics: The Nikon is a more advanced camera. It has a few more options, but in general a Nikon will be the better brand. However - the trade off is in the interface. Nikon is a camera-guys camera. If you want a better interface that is easier to work through, use the Cannon.

Now, if you are more advanced: the answer is simple: Get the Nikon. I have owned both brands, and both are awesome (so you won't make a wrong move), but you will get farther with the Nikon. Stats are stats, and you can quote a million numbers, most are things that you will never use or mess with. Use this rule: If you know what you are doing - get the Nikon. If you are learning - Get the Cannon.

My boyfriend is looking at the same cameras. To be honest, they're very similar and each camera has pros and cons. Canons are generally known for producing excellent pictures as they're quality built. The 350D also has a larger picture resolution (8 mega-pixels).

The Nikon is also a quality camera and will deliver similar results.

The best thing you can do is go into a camera retailer and tell them specifically what you're looking for. They'll be able to show you the camera specifically, you'll be able to hold it and probably take some pictures. In the UK I would try Jessops, don't know where else you could try in relation to other places around the world.

Most camera websites will have a section where you can compare different specifications on a camera. I know Jessops does this for a start. Link: http://www.jessops.co.uk/

You should also check out the Canon and Nikon websites to see what they have to say about their cameras. It's also likely you'll be able to look at sample photos that have been taken by each camera. These websites can also be biased towards their own cameras though. Try posting your question on photographer communities or just searching pages on photography websites. Again, they may be able to offer you a fairer review.

Canon website: http://www.canon.com/

Nikon website: http://www.nikon.com/

Jessops website: http://www.jessops.co.uk/

Good review website: http://www.reviewcentre.com/

Another good review website: http://www.cnet.com/

I hope this has helped!

(PS, I own a Canon and the camera is purely amazing. The quality of the camera and the photos it produces is remarkable).

The June issue of "Consumer Reports" features Digital Cameras. I recommend you take a look at it< you should be able to find it at any large book store, (Barns & Nobel, Chapters,. etc)
