Its not like it is really independent - the US services it and make the keys bits for the warheads. It will cost £25Billion. And you can't nuke these terrorists (what you going to do? Nuke Dewsbury?). Would UK prestige suffer because they don't have nukes and the French do? Is it fair to make the US shoulder the burden? Do the UK's 200 warheads make a difference anyway?

200 tridents can ruin most countries' day. The deterrent factor is what helped turn the tide against the soviet union back in the day. Keep them until we no longer need them.

yes it makes a difference thats why the yanks are so determined to stop the iranians from having one,,
it seems its okay for the yankee doodle dandies but not for anyone else
