What the Bible says about Burning People to Death
Some crimes are so heinous that the guilty must be burned to death.
(Like when a man has sex with his wife and mother-in-law, the daughter of a priest behaves like a whore, or someone touches the accursed thing.)

"If a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you." -- Leviticus 20:14

"And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire." -- Leviticus 21:9

"Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt." -- Genesis 38:24

"He that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath. ... And Joshua ... took Achan ... and his sons, and his daughters ... And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire." -- Joshua 7:15, 24-25

Sometimes God burns people to death.
(Like when they complain too much, burn incense without a license, dabble in astrology, or make God angry or jealous or something. And sometimes God burns people to identify a prophet or to identify himself, and sometimes for no reason at all.)

"And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp." -- Numbers 11:1

"And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense." -- Numbers 16:35

"They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God ... For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. ... They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust." -- Deuteronomy 32:21-24

"Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them." -- Psalm 21:9

"Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame." -- Isaiah 47:13-14

"If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty." -- 2 Kings 1:10, 12

"Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. -- Ezekiel 15:6-7

"Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left." -- Isaiah 24:6

"And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire." -- Isaiah 33:12

"I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites; and it shall be a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire." -- Jeremiah 49:2

And God will burn most people forever in hell after they die.

"If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." -- John 15:6

"The Lord Jesus ... in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God ... who shall be punished with everlasting destruction." -- 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9

"The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God ...he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone ... And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever." -- Revelation 14:10-11

"The fearful, and unbelieving ... shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone." -- Revelation 21:8

So remember to pray that God will burn your enemies to death.

"Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again." -- Psalm 140:10

The writers wrote it so. There's a lot more to it than just burning people to death, actually. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Well you see, look what an impression it has made on you. You've gathered all of these verses together and the thought of getting burned to death seems very upsetting to you. Now consider, that these old testament laws were a foreshadowing of what you've included from the book of revelation.

God was warning people that there was pain and suffering ahead for proud, unrepentant, rebels who knew what God had said but had decided that they were going to do what they wanted anyway, and God could go take a flying leap.

That's why I'm so glad that my Father in Heaven is patient and long-suffering, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance and a saving knowledge of the truth. Otherwise, if He had taken me away from this earth any time during the majority of my adult life, I would have been waiting for my turn to be tossed into the lake of fire. But He called me into his family and forgave all of my sins by sending his beloved Son to pay my debt for me.

Instead of getting upset about what the Sovereign Lord of all Creation does to those who disobey, why don't you give thanks for his gracious and merciful provision available through faith in Jesus. God doesn't send people to the fire, people send themselves to the fire and God agrees with their life long decision even though it grieves Him to do so.

Most of your quotes came from the Old Testament. Back then that was the way that God let people know He was serious about the way they were to worship Him and how He punished them for their sins. Then when Jesus came to die for us, the price for sin was paid and then the human race no longer had to worry about being "burnt". However now we need to be sure before we die that we are born again spiritually or we won't go to Heaven. The New Testament references are talking about Hell. So if you're not a born again Christian then that is where you'll be spending ALL of eternity and it is NOT going to be the least bit pleasant. So I'd make sure I wasn't going there, not ot mention that you'd get to spend ALL of eternity with your Lord and Creator. That's going to be worth all the heartache that we endure here on Earth.

Why in human mythology (all humans and their lives are myth by your logic).., does loving people BURN diseased bodies - or quarantine living people to a life of misery just because they have a highly contagious incurable disease?

Get this straight; Sin is like a disease. It will not be allowed to cross over to where God has prepared all things new. It must be extinguished. It has nothing to do with hate - it has to do with Sin - ALL have sinned and even those who you deem have not sinned are of sin from birth. Adam in effect sold out his birthright and by so doing robbed his generations after him of that birthright.

The short of it is, God sent Jesus at a proper time and place to bring mankind the good news! Man does not have to face this fate of hell and later the lake of fire - if they come to repentance and follow his teachings which come from God.

Sin is the disease, Jesus is the cure. If you don't want the cure - no one will force it on you. It is the same in life. If you get a disease that can kill you and your refuse the cure.., its not anyone elses fault you rejected it. Its not the fault of the one offering the cure.

Sin was brought by man to man. And only one man, the first born of his kind (the second Adam) which is Jesus, can we be redeemed (cured) of the effects of that sin which is death and a certain hell.

While all that you have pointed out is really interesting and by the way, I guess someone should have burned me alive by now ,I would like to challenge you to find as many positive things in the bible. You take the book apart to disprove it, how about just ONE post with a little positive energy behind it. I am sure no one will think less of the Great Jim Darwin if only one time he would find something good in the bible. I don't think the Christians will think you are one of them or that you have converted but maybe just maybe you would find something that actually felt good.

This is just a wild idea.

Perhaps it comes from the extreme conditions of the desert. Things tend to be pretty black and white. It is a very either-or world of dualisms. Water vs. dry. Night vs. Day. Hot vs. shade. Probably one of the most uncomfortable things one would naturally think of being in a desert environment is intense heat, with no water nor any shade around.

Perhaps people used a metaphor like this to describe the difference between one who is in the cooling shade of God's protection, vs. the one who is out there on his own in the sweltering heat. First thing you know, people take the metaphor too literally, and you have the idea that God burns up his enemies. And just who are God's "enemies"? That's another thing. People are not either all good or all bad. That too is black and white thinking. So this sort of thinking leads to the stark contrasts of heaven vs. hell.

Wow! Someone said: "'God' doesn't appreciate his word being called mythology."

What utter jibberish. The bible is nothing more then a fantastical collection of myths. Not science, not documented findings, not rational - just myths.

I dont appreciate it when people go around spreading myths as fact. I dont appreciate all the recruiting that myth peddlers do. I dont appreciate that people have never taken a critical look at their beliefs. (They'll tell you they have, but in the end it all comes down to nonsense like, "How could you look at a flower and say there is no god?") Rubbish.

Free your minds of mythology and realize you can still be good people. But also recognize that life is what we have here and nothing more and you will enjoy your life more.

Yes, as the law was fulfilled in Jesus Christ we came to know God more fully. With this new sight of the divine we could see an endless mercy and love.

Anyone ever tell you how smare you are Darwin?

Next time could you please place due reference to the source which you took this from. I don't mean the Bible. More like whatever anti-Christian website or book you are copying down.

Based on the phrasing of your question it is obvious you do not want an answer. Regardless of differences of opinion calling someone else's faith a mythology is insensitive and speaks a lot about the person speaking.

Also Judeo Christian is a rather poor term. The two faiths could not be more different.

Because christians are delusional. And believe me, christians do threaten burning. All the time. I'm constantly being told I'm going to hell. I'm not really sure who these people think they are, damning me to an eternal fiery suffering. Don't they know how insulting that is?

The bible was a set of laws. Most Christians do not follow those laws. I think everybody knows that.
